I've been told that Ampatch is a one time use covering. Has anyone tried to use it more than once; for instance...wear it, take it off to intubate and them put it back on till the next time. Will they re-stick or do they lose their sticky power?

I have used them for full days when I wasn't too damp or just added and extra gauze pad inside but they do loose their stick a bit so I only unstick one side to intubate (I stopped using them due to the expense). Sharon
It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Hi Les, I use the Ampatch, but do not restick them, or at least haven't tried, they seem too damp to reuse. In fact, in order to make them adhere better I use Skin Tac Wipes, an adhesive, before I use the Ampatch and have not had any problems leaking as it seems to stick better. The wipes actually might work to restick, haven't thought about that! Sharon, I did try to unstick one side to intubate, but it wouldn't restick properly so some leakage. Again, maybe that would work with the Skin Tac Wipes. I like the Ampatch as they are not bulky and so far I have had more success than not.

My stoma is the size of my fingernail on my pointer finger - really tiny, and I am still using nursing pads which seem so much larger in comparison. This new stoma also sits just below my waistline. Not too bad. I've tried using a cut sanitary liner(not absorbent enough) and a water proof, extra strong band-aid(may be water proof but not from the inside-out and lost its stick). Thought about Ampatch, but not covered by insurance and too costly when you can't re-stick. Thanks for the feedback

Hello, I had a K-Pouch since 1981. Always used a Stoma Cap by Hollister #3184. Beige colored. Used a new one w/ each time I accessed stoma to empty. Always carried 2 in back pocket and always was enough to get through most of day or at least on the move until I needed more from home. Kept half dozen in each car in a plastic bag just in case along with a few extra catheters. Since I always considered myself busy and wanted minimal interference from ostomy, I stayed with the 3184. Collected mucous nicely, is flat, the best alternative I ever found. For a guy... a heck of a lot better than using a minipad. Plus, they and other less quality alternatives would frequently allow mucous to dampen and stain clothes.
