It appears to be a very long suture just came out of his stoma.
He is having a bit of difficulty getting the cath in now.
Anybody ever have this happen?
He almost made it a year again. I hope this is nothing.
I e mailed the dr.

I hope Chris is okay. Maybe he should tape the cath in place and use it that way til he hears from the doctor. Keep us posted and I wish you and he the best.

Dr. Shore is not concerned.
Chris is able to cath so far so good. Just a bit freaked out.
Fingers crossed this is just a freak occurrence.

Chris does seem to think perhaps he has been bad with his food choices recently.
He started the hot green tea last night and that is helping.
Also, he said the cath must have had a jagged edge around the side hole and that is what caught the piece of suture. Maybe it was just in there for a long time and the cath just snagged it right at the moment.
He threw that one away and took out a new one.
He will watch his diet carefully again, we tend to get comfortable and forget the what if's.
We have to live.I do it with the j pouch too, I eat something I shouldn't and I should know after 20 years.Right?

Apparently, this sort of thing is not unusual. Three sutures have come out of the seroma immediately next to my stoma. And it was indeed freaky. They were bright blue and were sort of a knotted loop with lots of twists.

Each time I felt like a kid at a birthday party in days of old when a hired magician would "pull" a quarter out of a child's ear. Like, where in heck did THAT come from.

A local surgeon said it was not worrisome because the sutures had completed their job and I wouldn't miss them.

In fact, each time I was much more comfortable after they popped out because they were sharp and I had felt a poking sensation as they worked their way out.

Good luck to Chris. May he have many more good years with his k-pouch.

Thanks everyone for all the insight.
Dr. Shore just called Chris and said exactly what you said Carol.
Chris feels very reassured now.

I don't have a K but its been 4 years and I still occasionally pass a staple from my bum (no pouch - just open). Believe it or not I have a collection of about 15 staples that I have "collected" over the years. Eeker
