I have had a K pouch for almost 40 years. Had UC at 20 years of age and conventional ileostomy. After about three years had one of first K pouches done in US by Dr. Stewart King in Stamford, CT. tp

I was wondering same. I had ileo 1979, and kpouch 1980 by Dr. Gerber in Alhambra CA at a small local hospital - nothing even close to the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo.. but he was a dedicated surgeon who trained with Dr. Kock and trained a young Dr. Launer. I'm 50 now..
Good question for Dr Fazio and Bauer, Milsom, Richardson, Sung, Launer and Mayo or Lahey, those main docs who have performed them in any numbers over the years from 1970-1985 and a few since then. They have data compiled as they do for j pouches.I have counted about 50 here on the site who have posted. From some papers I have read I would guess 5,000 on up.
