Hi..I am new to the site and noticed alot of "don't forget grape juice with meals". I have never heard of this - what does it do? How much do you drink? Thanks in advance...

If your stool is too thick and not passing through your tube...you might try a bit of grape juice. If things are passing okay, just drink enough water to keep hydrated and you should be fine.
My son has a k pouch. He has basically been told by the drs to drink grape juice with every meal. OIt seems the only one that works must be 100% purple grape. I buy welch's frozen. He eats alot of foods that thicken his output. Everyone is different so I wouldn't go as far as to tell you you should do this.Chris does see a difference. He also drinks a packet of stamina every day which has done wonders. Water has no benefit to replace anything lost through dehydration and this has been a marvelous discovery. The stoma can dehydrate quickly with heat, sweat, medicines, alcohol, vomiting, etc.
We were also told hot green tea to break up sludge that settles in the pouch. Ever hear of bezoars? Do a search in the find box and read the old posts.
Red wine does the same as grape juice but he is not a wine drinker.

I've been using prune juice for 30 years and it works great, even bettr than grape juice....but then again I got used to drinking it very young..I also find that drinking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with my coffee and another glass of juice (whatever I like) allows me to completely empty out my pouch once a day....feels great and makes a really big difference... ohh..it's to help with the consistency. I have chronic water stools every day for 28 yrs (and cramping) still feels like UC - which was a bummer after the kpouch, except now I don't poop my pants. I rarely get it thick...thanks for letting me know!

have you tried going on probiotics to help with the watery stools ? Also get off of the milk products and white flour for a week and see how that goes... it could be and alergic reaction to certain foods...standard american pizza was my nightmare..always had an uc type reaction...now I make my own with no cheese and lots of tuna and veggies, no more problems...whole grains also help a lot but beware of brown rice..really bulks you up Sharon
