How many of you have them and what do they say?
Is there an emergency contact on it?
(I tried to search but was unsuccessful)

Yes, I wear a medical alert bracelet 24/7.
Shortly after my k-pouch surgery I felt I deserved a treat so I had one made in gold. It was expensive but since I was going to wear it constantly I wanted something handsome. And since I got it in 2003, I guess it was a bargain compared to current gold prices. It looks like a heavy ID bracelet with my initials and a small red insignia (can't spell the word, but like a snake thing with sort of wings at the top).

Mine says, in three lines of engraving on the inside:
Coumadin
Continent Ileostomy
Crohn's Disease

(I take Coumadin for thrombophelia and that word may be the most important piece of info if I were in an accident because I bleed more than others do)

If I were doing it again, I might add the Cleveland Clinic phone number or my local gastroenterologist who has my records, but now there isn't any more room after the other stuff was engraved.

Good question!
I was actually recently thinking I should get one myself. I'm going on vacation to Texas in May and a little terrified but the idea of going to a hospital where they've never even heard of a k-pouch.
I still have the phone number for the colorectal surgeon on call at the CC on my discharge papers, I was thinking of having that put on. Ideas?

I just got a MedicAlert one that says "continent ileostomy, uses #30 French catheter." I thought it might be a good idea to have the catheter info on there, too. My MedicAlert account has Dr. Launer's name, phone and fax numbers in my physician contacts list. I just got it, so I haven't had anyone try to read it yet. Smiler

I wear one also. It says "continent reservoir, drain with soft 30 F catheter". It also has my surgeon, Dr. Rehnke's phone number on it. I am registered with medic alert so they have a list of my allergies and other medical history also.

If you are in the Dallas area in May I can give you the name of a good surgeon at Baylor in Dallas who I am sure could help you if you got into trouble. I can give you his medical assistants name and number and you can call prior to your trip just in case. It would give you peace of mind.
