I am considering having a revision of my k-pouch valve. My original surgery was done in 1981 and I had no problems until a year ago. I have had increasing gas leakage,urgency after eating, and one instance of stool leaking. I saw a surgeon last year experienced in k-pouches and he felt the valve would eventually need repairing. I would appreciate any feedback re. revisions of the valve, including results, sypmtoms prior to surgery, post-surgery,down time, etc. Thanks!

hi...this is dmarie..i had a k-pouch revision done last year in la jolla, ca by dr. launer. i stayed in the hospital for 4 days..it's gut surgery, they just cut along the same ol' line..i had a morphine spinal, then tylenol for pain..i wore a leg bag for 2 weeks with catheter attached..i had been leaking for a long time...this solved the problem just a valve repair..you feel yucky for the 1st few days...if i need it again..i would go sooner than later...

Thank you dmarie and Holly. I think the resounding message in all of this is to take action sooner than later. You've given me much to think about.

Janice, Was that my list that you found in another post?
Some of those drs are no longer doing k pouches.
I have spoken to all on the list personally.
Dr Rolandelli is very old from what another member said who recently saw him, Dr Sung is also and nearing retirement, Dr Fazio is not performing surgery, Dr Gilsdorf is another NO and I believe Barlett is retired, Dr Harris no longer does k pouches either.

Why do you keep forgetting Dr. Sandy Fogel?

It isn't deliberate. Do you still see him? I am not positive he still does k pouches. He may manage former patients. Will you find out?
