Hello once again!
Any one have a BCIR (Barnet's Continent Internal Resevoir). How does this differ from the Koch Pouch? Which one has more benefits? I am looking for something to "upgrade" to from my ileostomy. Thanks and regards, Francine |

The pouches are pretty much the same. The BCIR has a 'living collar' that wraps around the base of the valve inside the pouch. It 'communicates' with the pouch and fecal matter fills the collar and it is supposed to help keep the pouch continent, or more continent than the regular Kock pouch.
Talk with Dr. Joel Bauer about this. 212-517-8600. Not everyone believes that the BCIR is better than the Kock pouch. Florida and California are the best places for the BCIR. |

There's lots of debate about BCIR vs. koch pouch and you can search under "find" to read threads on different views.
After 4 years my k-pouch is COMPLETELY continent for gas, waste, etc. I checked out both St. Petersburg FL and Cleveland Clinic in person (all the way from Virginia) and after seeing both facilities and talking with surgeons at each, deciding on the Cleveland Clinic was, for me, a no-brainer. There is another hospital in St Pete, St Anthony's, with a Dr who does k pouch and bcir, Greg Shore, he has the best staff, all the good nurses who left Palm when Dr Pollack passed away
