Just wondering when/why would one report a post and what usually happens? This is the only forum I've ever been part of and things are still a bit new.

You would report a post if it is off topic, offensive or potentially hurtful to someone.
Thanks!

Also, Bill, please enlighten us on how you deal with habitual interlopers with no real purpose on this discussion board, other than to advertise their product/religion/politics? Are there steps you use to block or ban them? How do you deal with the frequent identity changes? I am sure that this is a major nuisance for you.

Thanks for being there.

Jan,
Unless they havea static ISP DSN number (the number assigned when they log onto the internet) there isnt much you can do. If you want to ban them and there numbers change.. you would need to set a range to keep them out... In turn, other ppl that use that internet provider will not be able to get in too. So, unless they have a static isp, all they have to do is register and relog in after the reconnect to the internet. I teach internet crime/hacking and computer crimes for the state police... ALso, bill we talked on the phone before, but if you ever need help with this or your chat room I can always help you out .. I use to moderate Efnet over 20000 chat rooms and all sort of problems

Jason, Thanks, very enlightening. I knew that it had to be something more complex. Of course it would make no sense to block innocent people just to keep out a well-meaning soul-saver.

I guess that just means we need to be that much more vigilant in reporting posts that are inappropriate.

First, I do depend on you and other members to notify me of anything offensive or off-topic.
First thing I do is check their profile to see if they have posted before or have had disease or surgery. If not I delete them immediately.
If they post again, I can do a deeper search to find their IP address, which I ban.
I checked out the most recent interloper and thought it was typical that they allowed NO interaction in their web site, yet invaded others space to spread their 'message.'
