I can't believe how much this advice has helped me! I have had my pouch since 2004 and have suffered with gas & bloating to the point that I actually considered getting it reversed. A very kind nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto just this week told me not to mix my solids with my liquids. Therefore, NEVER drink at the same time as you eat. WAIT at least 30 minutes after eating solid food to drink anything, even including water. It takes a bit of getting use to but this advice has helped me tremendously, I'm a new woman!

Hi CC1,
Thanks for that info. My daughter is a little over 2 weeks after her takedown and is experiencing some abdominal discomfort after she eats. I'll pass on this info to her. You might try posting this info under the general discussion area and I'm sure you'll get more replies. Best of health to you!

CC1,

Thanks for posting this thread. I have been trying this out for a few days, without changing anything else in my diet, and I have definitely noticed a decrease in gas. Thanks again!

CC1,

Thank you so much for sharing this advice! I have been trying this for the past few days and it has been a tremendous help!!! I too was suffering from horrible gas all the time and was making tons of trips to the bathroom to relieve the gas more so than to empty the pouch.

I still have gas but it has definetly gotten more tolerable. It does take some getting use to but it's something I am willing to work on to make my life a bit more comfortable.

Love this site and the help of others!!!

I wouldn't be able to follow this, I'd have a blockage. I notice a near blockage coming if I eat a sandwich and drink but not overly-sufficiently ( Roll Eyes ) as it is

Yes, I have heard from others that if they don't eat and drink they have problems with blockages. I hesitated to try not drinking with my meals but so far so good.

Luckily I haven't had any problems with blockages. I have multiple other issues to deal with so I am very grateful that blockages haven't been an issue for me.

Guess we all have something to contend with.

I agree with 'jpoucher'; if I didn't drink with a solid foods, I would have a likely chance of a blockage. So in my case - I'll take the gas.

But advice is always appreciated.

I suffered from gas pains quiet frequently a few months after TD (it's been 11 months now) and I was just diagnosed with pouchitis. Had other symptoms such as frequency, urgency, etc but once I started the Flagyl/Cipro I haven't had the horrible gas pains at all. Guess some gas pains are pouchitis related.
