I live in Amherst and am looking at having this surgery. Anyone here know about the surgeons at Bay State? I have an appointment with Dr. Wocjick, and have heard of Dr. Frank and a new woman Dr. Tyler. Any opinions?

Please do yourself a favor and check out the Connecticut Surgical Group in Hartford. Others here have good things to say about Dr. Cohen, and my surgeon, Dr Paul Vignati, is in one word, AMAZING. His wonderful personality, is equal to his skills as a surgeon. I have zero problems or complications. Best of luck to you!

Dennis,
Can you clarify what you mean by having gone that route? Did you try to work with people in Springfield? Have you heard anything about Dr. Kelly Tyler? She's relatively new.

Truely 1,
How was Dr. Wojcik's "bedside manner"? was he someone you could talk to about problems?

As for bedside manner he was very good. He took all the time I needed to ask questions and really explained things to me. His office is very good about getting you in if you have a problem. He has great staff too. I moved to NY and have a new surgeon but I'd go back to Dr. Wojcik in a minute if I could.
My best advice is to make an initial visit with him and see what you think.

hey I have one tomorrow! How's that for prompt - well, except that I made the appointment weeks ago. My husband has heard through his baystate grapevine - he works there - that Dr.
Wojcik could be brusque and not so good with follow-up, so it's good to hear about your experience.

Norn, a word of advice. Please "interview" a couple of surgeons before deciding on one to do your surgery. You have to feel comfortable with the surgeon, and know that he/she will click with you, and hopefully, know exactly what they are doing. There are many surgeons out there that say they do the surgery, this could mean 1-2 times a year!! There are wonderful surgeons at the Lahey Clinic and at Hartford Hospital. Both places do many of these procedures a week. Good luck with your appointment and the decisions to follow!

seriously you should check on Dr Vernon Newnton Wellesley Hospital. He has excelent bedside manner and is a fantastic surgeon. He did my surgery in 1987 and I have absolutely no problems and take no meds. He also trained under Dr. Parks who invented the j-pouch.
