Hi Deedeeh, I was treated by Dr Hyland in St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin myself. Is that the one you're talking about?

hi ger
the surgeon i had my first op with was in bons and i thought she was awful. i was then referred to dr hyland and have just got out of hospital after having the pouch formation. it all went well apart from a few big blockages! had to go back into hosp for a while but am on the mend again. i think dr hyland is fab... have you had successful ops with him. i am due for the final op (closure of stoma) in nov and cant wait! dee

Well Dee, good to hear you're starting to feel better. I had some minor surgery for complications done by Hyland. All major operations were done in Amsterdam. It's important you trust your doctor and that there's good communication. Good luck in Nov. Let me know if I can be a help.

hi ger, thanks for that. can i ask what you thought of dr hyland? so far so good for me.i have had a couple of blockages since i came out. in one incidence i had to be readmitted for over a week. 2nd one i waited a while and it eventually worked itself out. have you had much of that, any hints and tips. i also seem to be having a lot of irritation around the stoma site which i believe is more common with loop ileostomies and more leakages. i am trying a new dansac convex bag so hopefully that will help. did this happen to you? have you had jpouch formation or takedown? just wondering what to expect after takedown. seems to be a lot of doom and glooom on this forum which i dont take to heart as i realise they are bound to get more people with problems looking for solutions online. what has been your experience if you dont mind sharing that is. personally i cant wait for the next op so i can be over this once and for all. dee

Hi Dee, I had a J pouch for 13 years but after complications it was decided in 2003 to disconnect the pouch and to go back to a stoma. The first few months after takedown weren't easy but when you're young a stoma isn't everything either. Perhaps I am able to give you some advise? I don't mind talking about my experiences in more detail but I'd prefer if we could use email instead?
