Pregnant with fistula?

Was curious to know if any of you who have had vaginal fistulas have been told you should not attempt to get pregnant?

I have an appointment next month with my perinatologist because my fistula seems to be the only thing I have any issues with, which is manageable, and I was wondering what other people have been told or have heard.
Thanks Smiler

I was told that they were not an issue. But I'm not sure if that was because I had a planned c-section and they knew that. The only problem with mine was needing anti-biotics and not being able to get them in the first trimester when the fistula became badly infected. Ouch

Just curious, what antibiotic did you end up taking? Was this in your second trimester?
I definitely must have a c. section--no doubts about that!

Oh boy, my memory has faded on that one. I think that I was on flagyl. But when they couldn't give me any in the first trimester I was given these lollipop pain meds that were really strong and fast acting when I had to have a BM and it was also forced through the infected fistula tract.

Hi! I was pregnant with two recto-vaginal fistulas (and anal stricture). I managed through the first trimester with just dilation to help with the stricture (and no drugs per the OB). I also did warm sitz baths twice a day to make the fistula feel better and keep it all clean. I was on Flagyl most of the second and part of the third trimesters. I had to continue the dilation and also the sitz baths. My surgeon also would use local to numb the skin, then open up the outside of the fistula to drain. Yuck! I didn't have a seton put in for the fistula until about 7 months after the C-section as to have enough time to heal from that.

But now I have a happy and healthy baby girl!
