hi ladies,
I had a bartholin abscess 3 weeks ago, the dr has shrinked what is inside. I have used antibiotics for 2 weeks. my question is that, I think no brown liquid is coming from my vagina but I feel gas coming out. May be I am paranoid, but I have feeled it. Can this gas be coming out of the abscess ( my abscess has gone actually, only a little bit remained) or coming from vagina. I am so afraid that I have recto vaginal fistula. Can it be? Please answer my question. I am so afraid. |

Genarally speaking, I believe that sometimes abcesses can lead to fistulas, however this is not always the case. My vaginal fistula started with symptoms of gas and then progressed to stool about a month later. It is a difficult issue to deal with but the best idea would be to visit your doctor to find out exactly what is going on. I've never had a bartholin's cyst, so maybe it's just residual drainage from that.
Good luck! Michelle UC dx: 2/02 Step 1 (colectomy): 11/2/06 Step 2: 2/23/07 Obstruction surgery: 03/2/07 Step 3: 6/20/07 Reversal of takedown: 10/3/07 Surgery for port install: 12/3/07 Fistula repair surgery: 4/8/08 Takedown #2: 6/4/08 |

It's hard to say. When I was at my worst with pouchitis, I thought I felt/saw stool coming out of the vagina too but my doctor begs to differ. I didn't have the bartholin cyst at the time (that was earlier, go to my other post), but it SEEMED like stool was coming out of both sides. And my stool was water. It had no form at all no matter what I ate. They examined me and told me to start taking VSL every day and I stayed on antibiotics and it stopped happening. The vaginal farts stopped and so did the brownish liquid. So if I had a fistula, it was probably tiny, but my doctor to this day doesn't think that happened....
I don't have those problems now but I'm scared to go off the antibiotics because I'm afraid symptoms will come back. I'm a worrywart by nature and this stuff doesn't help. |

I went to my dr, He examined very carefully. He said what I want to hear. It is not a fistula, it is a kind of bartholin gland abscess. He gave me antibiotics. I am so happy
Don't worry about puchitist. I had it 4 years ago. I used antibiotics for 6 months. When I go off the antibiotics, everything is fine. So don't worry about it. I am sure you will be fine... Take care |

Glad to hear you don't have a fistula!
Wow, that's great that you were only on antibiotics for 6 months and now you are fine! That gives me hope. |

Thank you cataja,
But I am not fine still. The abscess has becomed a little bigger in two days. And unfortunately, gas is coming from my vagina for 2 days. I hope it is just because abscess. I have cramps also. I started to use cipro. I don't know if I am doing right. Today I am going to my doctor. I hope he will say I am going to have an operation. I want to get rid of this silly abscess. I am so glad that your operation has passed successfully. I hope everything will be fine for you from now on.. Take care of yourself... |
