I had a labial abscess in Dec., and an MRI found a fistula in the rectal area. The tract couldn't be found. I've been on tindamax since mid-Feb.

I'm now having some newish symptoms, and I'm wondering if they point to an RV fistula? Things are a little complicated because I had a period after about a year into menopause - sheesh. But -- there's a little discharge (can't tell if it's stool or the end of the period), and mostly - irritation around the vaginal area. Marital relations are a little painful and the aftereffects are especially painful (irritation, etc.).

Does this sound like it could be R/V? IF it's R/V, can one just live their life with it without trying to have it repaired, or will there be complications that we don't want to experience? Do those of you with R/V fistulas continue with your "relations" or are they out of the question until repaired? Anybody "just living" with it?

I'm so sick about this - my jpouch recently took a turn for the better, believe it or not, so if it weren't for this fistula, I'd be feeling >90% for the first time in 7-8 years!

Nancy,
I just had to respond because yes, you can just live with it. My pouch is 15 years old and works like a charm. I feel totally normal and eat anything. I developed a fistula 5 years ago and although it freaked me out a lot at first, it's not really an issue anymore. They are notoriously difficult to fix (though not impossible) and I didn't want to risk my pouch function to fix a small problem. I take one tbsp of metamucil each morning to keep things thicker and that minimizes any leakage. I do wear a panty liner always, and can have sex without any problems. Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

Good luck,
CJ

You could have a yeast infection, which can be treated with OTC medication. A period out of the blue when in early menapause happens and painful intercourse and afterwards and discharge are associated with yeast infections.

I'm not a medical professional but just had a yeast infection, too two pills 3 days apart.

Thank you both for your replies. toughenough, I wondered about the same things you mentioned. I think I'll try the OTC med just to see if it makes a difference. I'm assuming the 2 pills you took were diflucan (sp)?

CJB, I was very happy to hear about your experience - not that you have a fistula, of course, but that you've been able to deal with it without any problems. I will be PMing you with a few more questions. Thanks again!

Sorry I don't remember the name of the pills. My doctor prescribed them as tha way it went towards my deductible. She said I could get them OTC and I'm thinking I need to do another round. I think the pharmacist can tell you. Hope you are feeling better - Soon!
