Hi! I had J Pouch done Dec 09 and have had one period since (and only came after I went on the pill). Had issues with pill and went off but have not had my period since. What do you recommend for birth control that will also regulate my period? I am anti-ring/injections and have had poor experiences with Ortho and Yaz. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you, M

In my day the best birth control was aspirin:
Take 2 tablets, place them between your knees and press tightly...you are protected. If the aspirin fall out..you are no longer protected Big Grin

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

The only thing that will regulate periods is hormone based, which will all have similar side effects/adverse reactions. The patch, ring, and implants will give you the most steady blood levels.

Any particular reason you are anti ring/injections?

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

What about Mirena? It's an IUD with hormones but some say it's better because the hormones are localized to the uterus. I've never used it personally but while breastfeeding, many moms preferred to use Mirena because it didn't interfere with breast milk production like the regular pill, patch or ring.

May be worth looking into. Good luck.

I had an IUD implanted & am thrilled with the results! I went with Paraguard because I didn't want any hormones. The insertion was painful but only took a few minutes, & the first 2 months, there was cramping & spotting. But after that, it's like it isn't even in there & no hormonal changes!!! Best of all, my insurance covered it!!!

I had a paraguard as well and I liked it with no problems, though it won't help the original poster, as she stated she is looking for something to regulate her periods and paraguard won't do that.

I didn't want hormones either -- my rheumatologist who manages my ankylosing spondylitis doesn't recommend them for her patients that have autoimmune diseases either.

I use Implanon, it's a tiny little "straw" that fits in my arm. The ob/gyn that prescribed it is high risk and knows all about my UC issues. I have never had problems. I have small, shirt periods every month, which could be due to all the stress and surgeries I've had. I had it put in after my subtotal colectomy. Worth a shot! Insurance paid for it totally.
