Hi. I'm so excited that I discovered this J-Pouch website! I had my surgery 9 years ago and I'm just now finding you guys.
My question, for anyone is if they've ever experienced uterine prolapse. Evidentally, over the years, my uterus has dropped ALOT. I found out today that I may have to have surgery next month. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? I had no idea that this could happen. -Michelle, age 29. |

Uterine prolapse is pretty common among the general population, so it is no surprise to me that women with a j-pouch might develop it, particularly if you strain a lot with bowel movements.
However, you are very young for this and I would imagine that your j-pouch surgery may have weakened your pelvic support structures more than most of us. Did you have multiple vaginal deliveries, particularly with large children? That could also be a factor. Here is a link to an excellent inforational article from the Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/uterine-prolapse/DS00700 Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

I'm so glad for your reply, Jan. I was able to go to a specialist and get a second opinion. The specialist determined that I did not have uterine prolapse, instead I am having vaginal muscle spasms due to the frequency of bowel movements. I will have physical therapy treatment and should be okay. Yippee. Thanks again for your help.

What a difference a second pair of eyes and a different brain thinking has on the outlook for the situation!
