Okay what is the deal with these periods - they seem to be getting worse (I am 2 years out from surgery) I need take the tylenol every four hours and sometimes it is vicodine painful. It is scar tissue or just that things may have been re-arranged a little bit. I know this is nothing in the big scheme of things, but it can get quiet painful and sure ruin a day or two ... every month. Any advice?

Are you on birth control? I had terrible cramps and was taking as much medicine as possible and still couldn't even stand up straight. After getting on birth control the cramps were barely noticeable. They also discovered that I have an ovarian cyst that could be causing some extra pain. You could have an ultrasound done to see if anything shows up. I'm sure scar tissue could play a role as well... Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

I experience the same thing. My take-down was this past March, but I have noticed that my periods are extremely painful! Tylenol does not seem to do the trick so I sometimes give into the IBprofen, although I know I am not supposed to...but what else I am supposed to do??
Sorry you are having the same pains, although glad to know I am not the only one that noticed this change.

I am not on the pill and really don't want to be. I do know that I have a small ovarian cyst on the right - what do you do, just load up on the pain meds?

Are you opposed to all birth control or just the pill? I'm not on the pill. I use the ring which is a small clear ring you insert vaginally and leave for three weeks, and take out for one week for your period. I love the ring. I've tried every other form of birth control. It's nice because I don't have to remember to take a pill every day and the ring came with this little timer that goes off every 20 minutes until you stop it on the days you have to take it out or put a new one in.
Until I used the ring I did just load up on pain meds and stay in bed for the first day of my period since it was the worst.

I am not opposed to birth control - I just don't need it for birth conrtol. Would it really help with the pain? I see my Gyn on Tues for a check up.

The ring really is a nice form of birth control. I don't need it for birth control either but use it to control my periods and it works great.

I have always had very painful periods and was taking the pill non-stop so I wouldn't have my period (it was great!). But a blood clot from my first step put an end to that. I have tried the progesterone only pill and it turned me into an emotional wreck - I couldn't even last a month on it because of the insane mood swings. I am on tramacet for pain at that time of the month. 12 extra strength tylenol a day didn't stop the pain and ibuprofen was doing nasty things to my pouch so I spoke with my doctor and now I'm on the tramacet.

Can anyone tell me about the ring? Does it use estrogen or is it just a mechanical device? Can it stop you from having a period?

Check this out and see if that gives you the info you are seeking. Of course everyone is different but this works great for me. I was put on it soley for the pain I was having on my periods due to my cyst and it has helped. The only problem I have noticed is that the week I don't have it in I can get a migraine due to the drop in hormones.
You can use them continually if your doctor allows so you won't have a period. I'm actually going to see if my doctor will let me do that and just have a period three or four times a year. You would just have to put in a new ring once every three weeks. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. She put me on the pill. Said to give it 4 months. I will have to wait a couple of days for the results of the tests.
