My Fiance and I are trying to have a baby and I was really curious as to how many of you have gotten pregnant without any problems trying? I am really hoping that I won't have any problems. Then again it really scares me just knowing I have alot of scare tissue and adhesions. It's bad enough going through everything. But,knowing that I may have trouble having a baby is really upsetting. I cannot wait to become a mother. It would be great to get some input from all the woman j-pouchers out there

I had trouble but it had nothing to do with the surgery. I have no adhesions whatsoever near my fallopian tubes.
I hope this helps Smiler

I am 36 weeks and we didn't have trouble conceiving, but there was some crohns flaring to deal with in the 1st trimester. I think it is just hit and miss. Certainly don't think you are destined to have problems just because of surgery. Give it a go.

I think this would be a great question in the 'Polls' section. And maybe a follow up question of how many years all is well since the pregnacy.

I haven't tried to have any children but before my biological clock stops, I am very interested to people's answer to this question.

I've had my pouch for almost 10 years and I had no trouble getting pregnant at all. I was worried, and I was surprised at how easily it happened. It happened the first time we tried! I am now 17 weeks pregnant. I've had minor complications, but they have nothing to do with the UC.

Good luck!

Hey there. I had my surgery in 1986, so just about 21 years ago. I'm 29 now. I was very worried about having trouble getting pregnant but it turned out to be unfounded. I got pregnant first try, then miscarried unfortunately at 6 weeks. 3 months later, I got pregnant again first try Smiler I am 27 weeks along now and doing great. No real pouch related issues, I have always had a small amount of leakage and that is more pronounced now as the baby is getting bigger. But its completely manageable.

Hi all I have just found out I am pregnant too and that was literally the first month we decided to try. I am only 5 and a half weeks now but feel great. I know it is very early days but you can't help getting a bit excited eh?
Hope all goes well with you Jamie and def a positive outlook is the best way to go. I decided to try not to think about it all too much and here we are expecting.

I just found out I am pregnant also. I took the home preg test and is was hard to read. I then took the blood test with my family doc and it was positive. I went to my OB/GYN 1 week later for an ultrasound. We calculated that I was 6 weeks 6days. He couldn't find the fetus. He said "1-you are not as far along as you thought, 2-you already miscarried or 3-it's ectopic. I have had no pain, bleeding, or anythin. I took a home test again 2 days later and it's still positive. He took blood to measure the hcg levels and will do so again next week. Any ideas? Do you think it was too early to do the ultrasound? Should I just relax? Sharon

My daughter was 6 months old when I had my first surgery - she's now 3 and a half. My husband and I started trying in May of 2006 to get pregnant, and through lots of practice, we managed to conceive in February 2007. My little guy is scheduled for a c-section next Tuesday morning.

Sharon O., I'm no Dr. by any stretch of the imagination, but it sounds to me like it was just too early to see anything. I had my first b/w ultrasound and 8 weeks, and the "lima bean" was barely visible.

Thanks, I hope so. They did blood work and said the levels are going up appropriately so that's good news. Sharon

I had a miscarriage in June after a frozen embryo transfer and nothing was visible either, even at 8 weeks, but my HCG levels, though going up, weren't going up high enough.

THe good news for you though is that if your HCG levels are doubling in good time, it was probably just too early for the ultrasound.
You generally can't see anything until the HCG level is at least 1000, usually around 6-8 weeks.

Jamie, my husband and I tried for years when I had the UC with no luck. Then I had the surgery and the first month after takedown, we got pregnant. Now we have a wonderful healthy boy. So it can be very easy!! Best of luck to you!!
