It is now easier for me to say how long I have left than how many weeks I am along. I have 8-9 weeks left and was wondering how long I should wait to eat after the c-section? And when I do eat, what should I eat? Broth, apple sauce, crackers...stuff like that? Has anyone experienced any leakage, blockage, gas pain, etc... after the c-section? As you can tell, I am starting to worry and worry and worry. I'm trying to plan the stuff I need to take to the hospital. Do any of you have one item that you thought was imperative that you brought or wish you brought to the hospital with you? Thanks!

Definiteley gas pain!
Walk walk walk and take gas x with you to the hospital and air freshener if you have to share a room-LOL
eating will be the same or next day, it's not like abdominal colon surgery
eat soft since the first foods will be the hardest to get out. are they doing a bikini incision? piece of cake compared to colon removal.
canned fruit is good which most hopsitals have fruit cups, peaches and pears.
Congrats and good luck,
Relax.

Take your own food! VGH's food is GROSS! and not enough calories to help produce milk if you are breastfeeding. Bring lots to drink too. I was very thirsty!

I had lost of gas pain that hit me after I left the hospital both times. No problem with leakage, but trouble going at first when things are waking up. No blockages.

IF you want to meet up and talk, give me a PM and I will give you my email address and phone number!

I was VERY worried about gas pain but found that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I started eating whatever they gave me the next day. Mind you, I did not have much of an appetite until I came home so I didn't overdo it on the eating.
Good luck!

Thanks for the Gas-X suggestion - it is noted. How was the bleeding afterwards? How much and how long would you say? Should regular maxi pads be sufficient or should I bring out the big guns like the poise adult diapers. A friend said those saved a number of her panties until the bleeding slowed down, but she had a vaginal birth. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming Smiler
Oh, Annikki, does VGH supply anything for you? Do you have to bring your own diapers, wipes and such? Thanks.

I know I am a man and probably shouldn't know this kind of stuff but I might as well chime in. My wife has had 2 c-sections(no j-pouch, thats me)and there is a fair amount of bleeding the first few day post op. At her hospital they have these diaper sized pads to use followed by a mesh type underwear to hold it in place. I know this because I had helped her change these in regular intervals. They even give you a few to go home with, so yes there seems to be some bleeding, and I wouldn't suggest wearing regular underwear unless they are disposable. Congrats on the new addition, Scott Mc

VGH had diapers(pampers) and wash clothes. We brought our own too. They provide pads but I found them way to big and uncomfy. You shouldn't need the "Big Guns" as the do a could job of cleaning out the uterus. I used Always night time thins after a day of using thiers.

You can use you cell phone in the hospital.

I thought I would share my experience with a c-sec last May. Besides the pain from the c-sec......it was wonderful for me. I ate whatever they gave me the next day and with my j-pouch I usually go constantly. So, after the c-sec I ate what I wanted for over 3 days and never felt the need to go to the bathroom. I loved that! I didnt have any gas pain either. So they said I couldnt go home till I went, so I kind of tried hard on day 4 and got to go home. It was so nice though being able to eat and not run to the bathroom. So that part was fine for me. Hope you have a great delivery!!!
