Is it okay to sit in a hot bath or use a heating pad when you are pregnant?
I have discovered on other websites that they recommend that you do not use heating pads or have hot baths; however I have no idea how I will survive without them. What does everyone else use to help them feel better when their digestive track and/or J-Pouch acts up? Age |

I wonder if you could use a hot water bottle or one of those rice bags you put in the microwave!

Hi there,
This was the hardest thing for me too. i LOVE my baths and hot pads. When I feel crummy its the only thing that helps me. Basically they don't want your body temp to get to 102 degrees. I really hot bath or hot tub can reach that tempature. My Dr said to be safe... take baths at 99 degrees and stay in there for less than 10 minutes. I've been testing the water temp before I go in to make sure its not too hot. I was told to stay away from heating pads... but I have tried cold packs and they help too. I hope this helps. Nicole |

I stayed away from baths though I have heard from others they took them, I didn't feel comfortable.
What do you mean when your J-Pouch "acts up"? Do you mean things aren't moving through fast enough or too fast? For me when things weren't moving through fast enough I drank tons of water and tried to eat foods to move things along: prune juice, cherries, pears, etc. Is that what you mean? |

I took occassional hot baths during my first pregnancy...the water wasn't as hot as I would normally have it, but it wasn't 99 degrees either. Besides, after 10 minutes in a 99 degree tub, the water would no longer be any where near warm enough to get your body temp to 102. My son turned out just fine. I think the biggest worry is that women will use hot tubs where the water temp is often 104 or higher, or that they will take hot baths regularly.
I also ahve taken an occassional hot bath during this pregnancy and no issues so far. As with most things, I think common sense and moderation are key. Obviously, you need to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable for your health and that of the baby. |

I too have taken baths but again made sure they were not too hot. It is the only way I could stop the leg cramps at night to have one just before going to bed with a glass of milk.
I didnt use any heat pads but did find hot water bottles that were allowed to cool for a while were fine and helped me. x |
