Hello,

I just had IVF done on Wednesday. They did the retrieval on Sunday then transfer on Wednesday 3/02/10. They only retreived 7 eggs and only transferred two. There is one that didn't look that good that may mature and then we can freeze. I am 33 years old. I am a little down about the number of eggs retreived, but I guess from what my body has been through with all the surgeries, it can be expected. The two embryos were scored as 8 and 9. I hope we end up with atleast one baby. I just knew going into this that I was a perfect candidate since I had gotten pregnant 3 years ago post takedown with one round of Clomid with my son Jack. I just pray that this works. If anyone has any similar stories that can help calm my nerves, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

The cost in Birmingham, AL was 10,000 for everything. My insurance didn't cover any of the meds. I am appealing the ultrsounds, but they may not end up paying 1000.00 that my Dr. had hoped they would.

Do not despair. Too many clinics push women to produce lots of eggs and then you are at risk for OHSS and that would cancel your cycle altogether.

My first cycle we got eight embryos and transferred two eight cell ones. Only one survived to freeze. I got pregnant from that cycle and my son is now four. I was 34 when I conceived. I also had had four intestinal surgeries and have a perm ileo.

I did transfer the frozen embryo 2 years later but miscarried. Did another fresh cycle shortly after and ended up with 8 embryos again. Went to blast then had to wait an extra day because of slight OHSS so we transferred a six day hatching blast. Got pregnant and my daughter is now 19 months old.

We are very fortunate that in MA all treatments were covered by insurance so each cycle cost us only $50 in co payments.

You are now facing the hardest part of the whole process - the wait. Keep busy try to do a lot of things with your partner because if you are pregnant you don't have much more time to spend together as just a couple!

Gayla, I can 100% sympathize with you, I was exactly where you are back in September of 2008. This waiting period is one of the hardest things ever, and it cost me around what it cost you, only it was a little more than that, I think we paid about $12K total. There is so much riding on it, it's terrible, isn't it?

I was 40 at the time of retrieval and it was very hard for them to retrieve eggs, plus I just didn't grow that many due to my age. They were only able to retrieve 6. 4 of the 6 were fertilized, but only 3 lived through to transfer day. We transferred all three.

I had to go to the doctor about 9 days after transfer for something else, I don't remember what, and at the time they decided to do a urine test just to see what it would say. It was negative. I was crestfallen, and was pretty sure my journey was over because we could only afford to do IVF that one time, and we had no frozen embryos to try again with. Still, I waited til the appointed test day on the calendar, and bought a box of home pregnancy tests to use over the weekend as I wouldn't be able to get back in for a blood test until Monday. Saturday at 3am I couldn't wait any longer and took a test, and it was positive. I couldn't believe it, especially after getting a negative back on day 9. I woke my husband up and showed him the test but he didn't believe it. I took another Sunday morning and another Monday morning and they were positive as well, and I had it confirmed later that day with a blood test at the doctor.

Fast forward to March, 2010 and our miracle baby boy is now 9 months old and is healthy and happy.

I hope so much that you have a similar story to tell. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Thank You so much for sharing your stories. I am so glad you had success with IVF. I am trying to be patient. I guess I would have felt a little better if I had 3 embryos to transfer, but oh well. I am trying to stay positive. I think I am still going to take a test before my scheduled blood pregnancy test.

Thanks Again.

It's me again. I am a nervous wreck this week. I am only day 7 after transfer and I feel like I am having pregnancy symptoms already. My breasts feel tender and I think I may be getting a yeast infection. Atleast, I got one when I was pregnant with my son early on. There may be no relation at all. Could it be too early for symptoms? I didn't have any symptoms with my son until 7 weeks. Or could all of this be from the medications I am on (Estrace & Progesteron)? Just curious what you ladies experienced. This all may be in my head, but I had to ask. Thanks a bunch!

It definitely can be the meds, I had those symtoms each time I did IUI (4 times) and I was never pregnant any of those times. I don't mean to dash your hopes nor keep them up, it's just a waiting game at this point. If you test too early, you may not get an accurate response. Just 1 more week!

I just want to give you some encouragement because I have been where you are the wait is so hard. I had my first IVF cycle 2 years post take down, and even after transfering 4, the cycle resulted in a BFN. One year later we decided to try again with a different doctor and even though i had several embryos to transfer he did not want me to have any chance of getting pregnant with multiples, he felt it would be too hard and dangerous for my body to carry multiples with all my past surgeries so he would only allow me to transfer 1. I thought that for sure if 4 didnt work, that 1 would definately not work. The wait was unbareable both times, but well worth the wait now I have a beautiful 9 month old baby boy. so just hang in there hopefully it will be a happy ending for you too.

I know this is an old post, but "only 2" is not really "only." There's a chance every embryo implants. Look at Octomom. Six embryos, eight babies. Doctors don't like to do more than 2 because it's very possible that more than 1 takes.

Diagnosed with UC at age 12, 1993
Complete collectomy in 1995 at age 14, four-step process due to complications.
Hit by car at 19 (2000), resulting in ruptured pouch.
Pouch repaired at 23 (2004).
Diagnosed infertile, bi-lateral blockage at 24 (2003).
IVF in 2008 and 2009
Had our miracle-daughter December 3, 2009, in a home-birth, and I'd do it again!!

Don't give up!!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I am sorry I haven't updated in a awhile. We found out that the two embryos that were implanted did not attach. The doctor said he felt good about us having a successful pregnancy if we did it again. He said he started us on the lowest dosage of meds. He said he didn't want us to have a cancelled session from overstimulation if he'd of given me higher doses. He said now he has a starting point that he would raise the dosage now that we know that the lower dose didn't work. Unfortunately, we don't have the money to do it again right away so we are going to try and save up and try again next year. We are going to keep trying the old fashioned way but try not be so stressed about everything. Just wanted to give an update. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend.
