Yup, been there. During my first pregnancy I had a near total blockage at about 18 weeks. I was in the hospital 3 weeks, on a liquid diet for 2 weeks, didn't eat much for 2 weeks and was on a restricted diet for 2 weeks. Luckily becaue I have a perm ileo and the blockage was near the stoma, the surgeon was able to catheterize the stoma and get the blockage to clear.
Once I hit 23 weeks, the blockage cleared. They think it was caused by my intestine being held closed by an adhesion as my uterus grew. Once my uterus got big enough it snapped the adhesion and everything was fine after that.
My girlfriend with a j-pouch had an obstruction every weekend from about week 18 to week 24. Always cleared on their own and after week 24 wasn't an issue any more.
Here's the good news - my son was born perfectly healthy with no ill effect from the time when I wasn't eating normally and was in a lot of pain. More good news, 2nd pregnancy will be over in 2 weeks and no obstruction this time at all.

That's good to hear! I feel so sorry for your friend with a blockage every weekend>>> HOW AWFUL! Well I am still on a soft/liquid diet. Everytime I think it is okay to move up to something a little more substantial I get sick again. I am hungry but cannot eat what I want. All I really ask for now is to have my energy back. My face is all sunk in like I am dead. I have been pounding down the boost drinks but still feeling rough.

Hi Whitney, I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so lousy! Just hang in there and I'm sure you will be doing better soon. Do they know what caused the blockage? I am 25 weeks and so far haven't had any issues. I worry when I hear about others that have experienced blockages. I hope you feel better soon, and just remember it will all be worth it in the end!
Best,
Colleen

Thanks Colleen! Yes I do feel better since I got out but it was a rough couple of days. I am getting better daily. My face has finely started to fill back in. I thought I looked like death for a couple days there. My voice is back to normal. I had a high pitched tone when I was feeling so bad. Anyway from what the doctor's told me it was like my small intestines had a kink in it like a water hose. I don't really know why this happened. It happened very quickly. I was eating at a Mexican place & I normally can eat 3 tacos. I ate 1 and felt really full. We walked to the truck & when I got in I felt these pains going from the top of my stomach around to my back. My belly started to swell so I layed down as soon as I got home. My side hurt and I could feel a strain in it. I vomited all night & could hardly us the bathroom. I layed in bed all the next day just miserable & still vomiting because I was trying to push liquids. I still had a hope that it was a virus that would go away in a day or so. Then my mother came over right after work & she knew it was not normal for me to be vomiting all that much. We called my OB & were soon off to the ER. They actually had to do a CT scan on my stomach. The radiologist missed the diagnosis but my J-pouch surgeon saw it. I was in my upper left Quadrin. He immediatly took food & liquids away just lettig me have 4oz of ice per 4 hours. I was on Morfene(SPELLING??) but was soon switched to another pain med that did not make me crazy. I have to tell you it was painful & I felt like they were trying to kill me with just a little ice but the days passed quickly. The reason for this was that the Dr. was trying to get my intestines to rest so it would relax & unkink. It was hard but I have gotten through it. I am now on soft foods & trying not to over do it. I want you to hear all of this because I thought it would not happen to me but it did. I am almost feeling back to normal. I notice right now that my legs are a little weak when I step up or down but that will be back in time. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know. Sincerely, Whitney
Whitney

OMG! That is awful! You must have been so scared! I'm sure it's bad enough having a blockage without being pregnant, but then to have to worry about the baby on top of everything else is unimaginable. Thank you for sharing your story, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that we both stay blockage-free. At least now I will know to go right away if I experience any of those symptoms. Sometimes you just don't know, but I guess it's better off to be safe than sorry.
I am happy to hear you are feeling better. Just a few more months to go! (You are having a girl, right?) We are having another boy. At least I'll save on baby clothes, right?
Best,
Colleen

Yes it's a GIRL!!! This is my first girl too!! I have 2 boys. I went into the ultrasound just thinking it was another boy but to my surprise it was a girly!! My husband is really happy about it. He thinks my boys do not want to do anything like fishing or guy stuff with their dad so he says this little girl is going to be his buddy!! The boys just like to do things their way & he does not understand that. He teases them all the time about it. But I am glad I finely get to shop for those cute little bikinis & skirts!! Boys are so easy though so I think this is going to be tough!!
