So...PMS couldn't eat enough. Got my period. Cramps are minor I guess but definately things going on down there...NO APPETITE. NONE. Its sooo weird. I was ever so slightly hungry this morning and ate: HOLY CRAMPS!

Hmmm. PMS binge to Period Purge.

I'm always literally STARVING 5-10 days before my period, and then as soon as it starts, I'm just not hungry at all. Of course, this was essentially the norm for me even before my surgeries as well. The only time I didn't get these severe extremes was when I was on the pill, which I don't currently take. I still got hungry a few days before my period on the pill, but the massive increase in appetite followed by the massive drop wasn't as pronounced.

I guess it was the norm in some degree before surgery but its been a while since I had my period so I kinda forgot it all. I was too sick to get it. Too skinny and too sick. But I do think the lack of appetite is enhanced post pouch. Funny I didn't eat anything yesterday...well a couple crackers and I woke up last night and felt that *heavy* feeling. And had a lot to lose out of the pouch. Very strange to me. Its like the period hormones act as a sort of immodium...

Actually, if you look through this forum, you'll find a lot of posts about the pouch acting up just before or during your period. Some of us refer to it as "pouch PMS." I might get increased frequency, butt burn or loser stools just before my period. This was more pronounced in the first year after takedown, and then I even had some slight cramping of the pouch around my period. That said, even this isn't really isolated to pouchers, though we probably feel it more. Even in women with colons and no history of IBD whatsoever, indigestion, diarrhea and cramping aren't entirely uncommon around one's period. More reason to blame your misery on hormones! Smiler

i also get really hungry for a few days before and then lose my appetite when i start my period. haven't had one since takedown (just annoying horrible cramps each month) so curious to see if it's more pronounced once i'm actually having a period.

Feel more hungry today but not much. Funny thing though how hormones effect gut function. I've seen some of the older posts too. I feel right now like right after takedown. spasmy pouch. And butt burn again. But hey...every 24 days I can deal with. Smiler Mine only lasts like 2 days once it kicks in. So thats like just over 3 weeks of happy pouch every cycle. Woo Hoo!

It is historical biology that does that to you...your body builds stores prior to your period because it knows that it is going to be loosing a lot of calories...then once it is done and your period comes it stops...no more stores needed, it has done its job...you can shed and bleed at will...you are supposedly strong enough to handle the loss of iron and calories (that is often why we crave certan foods during pms, our bodies are trying to tell us something).
Go with the flow and listen to your bodies...they are smarter than we think.

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Yep. My body beats me up now (worse than before) if I don't listen so its: "YES MAM!" I won't eat if you say "No"...and PMS high fat cravings:..."well can we PLEASE discuss that?"
