When pregnant, can the baby kick or punch the j-pouch? If yes, what happens?

I'd guess it would be ok, my babies kicked all over, including small intestines, when I was PG. I still had my colon but the J-pouch is made of small intestines and is strong enough to strech out and store waste so I'd think a baby kicking shouldn't harm it.

Yes, mine gets kicked, punched, and smashed all the time. I just get a sudden urge to have to go to the bathroom, but it passes. Not too different feeling than having the baby squish your bladder. In the third trimester when the baby gets big, frequency will go up since the pouch is being compressed.

I'm 34 weeks pg and the only difference I notice with my jpouch is that I have to go a lot more often now because the pouch is compressed by the baby.

redhead78 - Just had to post as my redheaded daughter was born in 1978 and one year ago today had her second son. I'm assuming you were born that year. It looks like you both have the same hair color too.

She has not had to go though UC, but at age 24 she saw blood in her stool. Because of my UC they did a colonoscopy. She had 4 polyps. She made her father, my husband, get a colonoscopy that year, and he had 9 polyps.

Anyway I'm old enough to be your mom and I hope you have a good delivery and a healthy baby!

Please let us know when you have your baby!

toughenough - thanks so much for the well wishes! I was indeed born in 1978!

I hope your daughter and husband are well and have no further complications with the polyps.

Best wishes!

redhead 78 - Thank God I'm the only one that has more than polyps in the family. Can't wait to hear about your baby and think your story will help others on this site!
