Okay, girls...I know I keep getting these b/c of being on all the antibiotics and the immunosuppressive meds, but I swear, I end up with one at least every two months, if not more. I am sick of having to take Diflucan everytime, but nothing else works. Over the counter stuff just ends up being a waste of money. Is it bad for me to keep taking Diflucan so often? I know it's really strong, and it does make me sick, but I can't stand having a yeast infection either.

Thanks,

Liz

As I've suggested before...try a low sugar diet. It isn't easy but eventually you do get to a point that you can't take it any longer and are willing to try anything. I know this month is particularly difficult for me with all the yummy sweets around. I can e-mail you the diet I followed, and got rid of the yeast. Unfortunately it does come back if you don't stick to it long enough...or you go back to your old habits.

Hi Lizz,

That sounds really miserable, you've had a long journey! At first, I was embarrased to write on the jpouch site to talk about yeast things, but now I am getting more comfy. Listen, Mark is the jpoucher in our house, but I have lived with chronic flora/ph vaginal imbalance since puberty. And I learned after years of use of traditional yeast medicines that none of those helped prevent reoccurence. I've said this before, but the book below by Dr. Tori Hudson illuminates the reasons why we get them, and she offers many helpful options for treatment and prevention.

http://www.amazon.com/Womens-Encyclopedia-Natural-Medic...Hudson/dp/0879837888

The ONLY thing that works for me is a maintenance treatment of boric acid suppositories (1-2 after ovulation), usually this prevents anything from starting but if I start to get yeasty I'll up the dose to one or two a day for treatment purposes. And then I use Cortaid Ointment to create an external barrier on the outside tissue so that I don't lose my mind from that internal fluid irritating the outside.

Anywho, I wouldn't recommend my treatment b/c I am not a doctor of medicine, but I would encourage you to seek other ways of treating this problem. I swear there are easy and natural ways to do it, you just have to play around with the options.

Okay girls, I took a Diflucan and things are clearing up, but I think Shelby's right and I am just going to have to avoid sugar as that seems to certainly bring them on. Shelby, could you email me the diet you are on? I have been avoiding it and I'm pretty proud of myself so far! I think it will get easier, it's just so hard when people are shoving it in your face...
Thanks!

Lizz... just give me your e-mail address and I will FWD. It is a copy but I think you can read it. I had to scan it into my computer. It basically gives you the foods to eat and those to avoid.
I also took diflucan and it helped for a little while but the yeast just came back full-force. The diet is the only thing that helped in the longer-term. I continue to have issues (not nearly as bad though) because I take antibiotics on a continuous basis (I also lack the will-power to stay on a very strict diet all the time, but I try, and I know my limits!)

Thanks, Shelby. I too am on antibiotics all the time, and I know being on immunosuppressives makes you more likely to get them too. I feel like the diet is the only think I can change, so I'm going to try! You take Humira too, don't you?
