I am 19 weeks pregnant and so I am just starting to get a growing belly but I have a stoma scar that is an indent a couple inches to the right of my belly button. It healed from the inside out as an open wound to prevent abcess and all that jazz. I am worred because it appears to be in a fixed position like it is adhered to the tissues and muscles underneath and not merely a surface scar like my others.

Is the pregnacy going to break this apart as my uterus grows ? Anyone have this happen? Will it be painful?

I see my new surgeon tomorrow about some bum issues so she might have some ideas but I would like to know what to expect from someone who may have been through this.

I would be interested to know this as well; I've posted this question before but never got a response. I have the same problem. I'm not pregnant right now but have thought about this. Now, whenever I eat a lot and get the pooch or am bloated or inflamed, everything will extend except the area with the indented scar.
Since you are experiencing it, please post updates and let me know how your pregnany goes and how your scar reacts.
I wish you the best Smiler

I did'nt have a problem with the stoma scar and I carried twins to 37 weeks, it actually just stetched a bit and flattened out.I did'nt experience any pain with this, but the area was at times very itchy, and I often had tingling sensations there too. The stretch marks all over my abdomin are quite pronounced though, partly due to the amount of scarring from my surguries, my ops. were nearly twenty years ago and the scars extend from my sternum right down, meaning that as my belly grew the stretching was eneven, causing the stretch marks. My son is now eight years old, and I'm hoping to have a sort of tummy tuck this year to remove some of the scars and excess skin.Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy Marcene, and enjoy being a Mum as much as I do!

I didn't notice anything but a little itching from my stoma scar. My regular scar Ihad a horizontal bikini cute got very pronounced after my pregnancy. It had almost vanished before I got pregnant.

Well the surgeon said that even though the scar appears to be connected on a lower level that it is just mainly surface tissue that will stretch. Her only concern was just an ugly scar getting uglier and advised a lotion with vit. E and collagen to help with the stretching of the scar and stretch marks from the pregnancy. Good to know ladies?

I read somewhere that massaging a pregnant belly with a base oil like wheatgerm, almond or even just good old olive oil would help prevent stretch marks. Mandarin oil and rose oil are good essential oils for the skin. A couple of drops can be added to the massage oil. Hubby and I massaged my stomach every day before baby #1 came (no stretch marks) and didn't take the time in the same way before baby #2 (lots of stretch marks) so maybe there's some truth in it?
