I was hoping to get some advice from some of you. I have one child pre j-pouch who is now 3 years old. I had my takedown on March 2 of this year and I am feeling great. I want to have another child but was not sure on how long I should wait before getting pregnant again. I am a little nervous about being pregnant after all I have been through. I am going to be calling my doctor tomorrow to ask their advice as well, but I was not sure if any of you have any experience in this area. Thank you in advance.

Hi Amanda, I was planning to get pregnant after my operations so I discussed it with my surgeon and I believe he said to wait 3-6 months. Honestly, I don't think there is one answer. You have to evaluate your own health, how you are feeling, your energy, etc. But, that is a guideline if nothing else.
Good luck |

Hi Amanda,
I have a 5 year old daughter pre-pouch.Had colectomy mid May 2006, takedown August 2006 and was pregnant early September 2006..I was so keen for a baby and am very lucky. I am 34 weeks pregnant and having a c-section in 5 weeks time. My surgeon told me I could try straight away and am glad I did. Depends on how u feel in yourself as it is a big strain on your body as I have noticed I am sleeping 12 hrs a day whereas I barely slept with first pregnancy and going to no 2 15-20 times daily. However it will be worth it. Good luck with it all. Melinda |
