Hi,just wondering if anyone has had more then one baby after having the j-pouch surgery? I myself had one before the surgery and one after but am just wondering if anyones had more then one post j-pouch and if so how hard was it to fall preganant again? How was the pregnancy? Was it any more difficult second or third time? etc. Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have had 2 babies after j-pouch surgery, and had vaginal deliveries for both. I did have to do IVF to get pregnant. The second pregnancy was much easier than the first. With my first pregnancy, I got multiple obstructions and pushed for 4 hours when delivering. With my second baby, I didn't get any obstructions and only pushed for 30 minutes.... I kind of wonder what would happen if I had a third?

Hi JenM826, Thanx for replying to my post. I was starting to wonder if anyone had more then one baby after j-pouch surgery,so thanx for letting me know your experiences. Thats interesting that the second pregnancy was easier for you,i suppose your body knew what was happening and was more prepared second time round. How long did you wait from the first pregnancy to the second? Did you have alot of scar tissue from your j-pouch surgery? I was told after my second pregnancy (first after j-pouch surgery) that i had ALOT of scar tissue and was 'advised' not to have anymore children. But the DR put nothing in my medical records about it,and lately i've been thinking alot about maybe trying for a third baby (second post pouch) but i'm just unsure. I'm scared to put my body through pregnancy again in case problems arise but i'd really like to try for a girl(we've got two adoreable boys)but i'm just so unsure.... But thanx again for your reply it gives me hope

Hi Aussie_G, I have had two successful post-pouch pregnancies (both C-sections). I have two boys and they are 3 1/2 years apart, my youngest is 22 months. I was extremely fortunate not to need fertility treatments for either pregnancies, and my first was actually unplanned (but no less celebrated!) I had my pouch done in three steps, laparoscopically, so I don't know if this helped in preserving my fertility, everyone is different. Unlike you, I am not entertaining the thought of a third (although the thought of a little girl is alluring, I am not risking another boy!!) Don't get me wrong, I love my boys, but we feel our family is now complete. Best of luck!! Keep us posted!!

Thanks Colleen it's good to know there are a couple of people who have had more then one baby post pouch. I know what ya mean about getting another boy, what a handful 3 boys would be! But still great i'm sure. Thanks for telling me your experiences though,i too had mine down in 3 steps laproscopically, and we did fall pregnant with our second quite quickly, but in saying that,it doesn't mean if we went for another one it would be as easy, cause there would be more scar tissue now from my caesarian, but we'll see.

I am pregnant with my 2nd post pouch. First was very smooth with a vertical c-section for the scar appearance. May have been a little harder to recover from though. I fell pregnant very easily both times.

Hi Sherry24, Congrats on your 2nd pregnancy! How far along are you? And what will be the gap between the two children? Did you have any children before your j-pouch? I've actually talked to my surgeon and his given us the all clear for a third baby but...he says i need to see an OB first just to make sure there is no scar tissue on or around my uterius, because that can cause problems,i'm not sure how, he didn't explain. Where abouts in Australia are you? I'm in QLD.

I had 2 babies after I had my j-pouch surgery. The first one was conceived through IVF, and the second followed 13 months later (conceived naturally). Both were delivered by c-section, as was recommended by my surgeon.
I've had 2 kids after having my j-pouch. We have been very fortunate and had no problems getting pregnant either time. My daughter is 3.5 yrs old and my son is 3 months old. I had planned c-sect with both of them. They did mention that there was some scar tissue this time during the c-sect (and it took a lot longer this time around than with my daughter). I did end up having a bout of pouchitis during my recent pregnancy and again afterwards, which wasn't much fun. Otherwise I've had no problems with my pregnancies. While pregnant I was certain that I was done, but I've been enjoying my little man so much that I am definitely considering having another baby someday. Of course, I will wait a year or two!

I have had 2 kids post jpouch surgery (which was when I was 15). In my case, I did have trouble getting pregnant, probably due to scar tissue and had ivf for both. The pregnancies themselves had no impact on my pouch, and in fact, if anything it was nice as things were slowed down a bit. I had a c-section for both and unfortunately, with both, I had issues with an ileus (ie. when my system didn't start up again and had lots of gas). First time I had to have an NG tube, but second tiem I avoided the tube by forcing myself to do lots of walking. (I believe the ileus issue isn't common and if you didn't have it the first time, its unlikely to happpen second time.)
How was your experience with your post surgery pregnancy?

Wow thank you everyone who's replied to my post. It's comforting to know there is other women out there who've had more then one baby post j-pouch. shell007,wow triplets! Thats great and amazing! Did you OB's worry about you being pregnant with triplets with a pouch at all? My husband and i aren't in any hurry just yet to have another,we want to go over seas next year first then we'll seriouly consider another baby. But in saying that, the other day i found out why scar tissue on or around the uterus can be a problem and it's freaked me out abit. Apparently your uterus can rupture and you can have massive bleeding. So we'll see,if we're meant to we will if we're not we won't. Well thanx again to everyone who replied,i hope your all doing well and enjoying your little ones.

Hi Aussie-G, just wanted to say I admire your courage to have a baby with a J pouch and also considering another. My babies(now adults)were both born prior to surgery, but I think it would be very very hard to experience the strain of pregnancy with a J, so well done!!! From another Aussie, Heather
