anyone had any experience with the nuva ring. Trying to find some way to make my periods really light so my life will be less complicated atleast in that one area. I am 42 and worry about using hormonal methods at my age and with my new health issues. Any imput would be appreciated.

Nuva Ring is a hormonal method, it's just not systemic to the extent that a pill being absorbed into the bloodstream is. I used to use it, but didn't prefer it due to the increased vaginal discharge. I could also feel it during intercourse and my husband could too. I can see the advantages though, you put it in and don't think about it again for three weeks. So, maybe worth a try. Good luck.

I tried it for a few months (pre j-pouch) but it just didn't work for me. I've always had trouble with hormonal BC though and this was the worst. It made me extremely moody and even angry, it was weird. About 2 weeks after stopping I was back to normal.

I did like the covenience and did not find it uncomfortable in any way. I'd say it's worth a try anyway.

I have never used it, but maybe try the IUC, Mirena. I have had it for a year. It eliminated my periods and I have not experienced any side effects. And it lasts for 3-5 years.

I'm not on birth control, but my GI doc said that this is one of the recommendations for people with CD/UC since we often have absorption problems. let us know how it goes - I will be looking for a birth control here in the next few months.

I used it for several years and really liked it. I could never feel it was in there and neither could my DH, and I felt it was an easy way to manage it. I had a lot of side effects from even the lowest dose of the BC pills and no side effects from this, I really liked it. Everyone's experiences are different. You can always try it and if it doesn't work for you, do something else. Would you consider a cervical cap? I used a diaphragm for a long time before the ring and I thought it was a pretty good method as well.

I got blood clots after my first surgery and being on nuvaring, be careful. I had 2 surgeries before and didn't have blood clots so the only common denomenator was the nuva ring...beware.

My OB/GYN just put me on it to try to control my periods. Due to the surgery I get really painful ovarian cysts. Apparently its common in women that have the jpouch, called ovarian entrapment. I started it on Thurs, but couldn't keep it in due my bowel frequency and a nasty cycle of pouchitis and cuffitis. When my period hits, I'm just in pure hell. I agree with my Dr. in that my hormonal cycle is throwing me into flare, but not sure what to try now. Just trying to position the damn ring seemed to irritate it. Hope it works for you, but if you figure something else out that works, please share.
