pregnant and incontinence problem

I am 4 months pregnant! YEAH! FINALLY! Problem, since I am pregnant I can not take lomotil. Imodium does not work! I am trying to eat more potatos, bananas, applesauce, etc... to stiffen up the stool. I am having a problem with keeping the stool thick. I am having problems with fecal incontinence. It is bad. I am using pads to keep from soiling my underwear. My butt gets stripped and I am using both desitan and calmoseptine ointment.
Please help!

Have you tried fiber? Even with taking the immodium I still have to use lots of fiber...like upward of 35 grams to soak things up. And I'm not pregnant. Just try to take it around your vitamins. You don't want it to suck up nutrients your baby needs. Good luck and enjoy little one. Smiler

Yes, try to increase your fiber and other thickening foods. Bananas, oatmeal, and meat make a world of difference for me. Also, increasing iron may help as well. I wasn't taking a prenatal with iron in the beginning, because it upset my stomach, but iron will help slow things down/thicken things up a bit.

Congrats!

just another thought. since you're only 4 months along, the baby is probably not all that big and not putting too much pressure on your pouch. could you have pouchitis? we are more likely to have flares when we are pregnant. the incontinence is what is making me lean that way.

Congrats!!

I too have accidents way more often during pregnancy. I'm 36 weeks. I also have to wear a pad all the time to protect everything. I hate it!

However, I find that pregnancy actually helps slow things down and I was going less in the beginning. Now, the baby is big and it's all over Smiler

I recommend Metamucil wafers to help. I only need one (the packet has two) at breakfast and that totally helps. Keep up the Kegels also. As my GI said, there is only so much room in your pelvis. As the baby grows and your organs move all around, the pouch is bound to be squished. Hang in there!

I will try the Metamucil wafers. Up until 5 months before I got pregnant, I was taking lomotil. Lomotil helped lessen my accidents. I did not have much of a problem with incontenance in the 5 months before I got pregnant. Since I have been pregnant, the incontenance has gotten much worse. I too am wearing pads to protect my clothes. Oh, I have to take an iron supplement to avoid anemia.
