Hi everyone. Did you breast-feed? Everyone says breast-feeding is the best thing for the baby, but i have concerns when it comes to medicine. Did you use flagyl all the way during pregnancy and what dose? Is it safe for the baby?

In the US, we are told that Flagyl should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy and also while nursing. There seems to be different guidelines in the EU and Canada.

A safer alternative while nursing is amoxicillin. While nursing, I had a pouchitis flare and needed to be on Cipro. I really needed the medicine, but didn't want to stop nursing, so I switched my son to formula and continued pumping and dumping my milk for a 10-day course of the medicine. Then I switched back to the Augmentin and continued nursing again. It went over very well for both me and my baby.

I was on a low dose of flagyl (250 MG/day) during my entire pregnancy. I also breast-fed and pumped while on the flagyl. My son is 5 years old now and perfectly healthy. My Dr. was not concerned, so I didn't worry about it either. The low dose kept my pouchitis under control and I had a very normal pregnancy. A little over 2 years ago I stopped taking flagyl and miraculously I have not had pouchitis since...

Hi my son was in the neonatal unit and I was put on flagyl while breast feeding. I was again put on it by two different doctors while also breast feeding. My son did not appear affected
