So I went to see my OBGYN yesterday for my yearly and told her I was going without birth control hoping to get pregnant. She wants to put me on a prenatal vitamin and gave me a prescription as well as some samples to use before filling it.

I was reading the package and it says it's a "gentle stool softener." Ummm, my stool is already good and soft and I go at least ten times a day. Should I avoid this and seek an alternative method of vitamins?

I had the same problem with my second pregnancy while I had UC. I asked for another vitamin with no stool softener. Just a fore-warning: they tried to give me stool softener after having the baby too!

My OB prescribed Natelle and it didn't affect my stool. My high risk OB said that if I worried that the prenatal wasn't being absorbed, I could take Flintstones vitamins. I took the prenatal but after the baby now I take Flintstones.
There are a lot of prenatals out there so find one that fits with your needs.

I take Natachew (chewable). I had issues with the Iron in many of the prenatal vitamins. Its been really great for me.

Best,

I've recently started taking Forvia chewable vitamins in hopes of getting my deficiencies up. Do you think it will work ok as a pre-natal vitamin? It has all of the things that we IBD'ers need for what we don't seem to absorb well. When I was pregnant with my son (I had UC but pre-pouch surgeries) I told my OB-GYN that I was taking Women's One-A-Day. She checked the amount of Folic Acid in it and since it was the recommended amount (I believe 400 mg?), she said it would work fine and I didn't have to switch to a "pre-natal vitamin". Can I treat Forvia the same way? Just continue to take it in place of a pre-natal? I'm hoping to start trying in the next few months.

Thanks!
Erin
