This is my first time posting. I had an S-pouch created when I was 16 after being diagnosed with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. I am now about to turn 25, and my husband and I would like to start trying for a baby in the coming year. I have been reading the fertility posts and have a few questions.
1. I know what IVF stands for, but what does IUI stand for and what does it entail? 2. I read a whole lot of stories of people having difficulty getting pregnant--is this the majority and does anyone know the real statistics about that? 3. For those of you who have had babies, does pregancy and delivery seem to put any extra wear and tear on the pouch and related parts? Thanks so much! |

Hi lindsey,
I have just recently joined the board too. I also had familial polyposis (j-pouch) and had my surgery when I was 19, I am now 30. IUI is intrauterine insemination, they will most likely give you meds so you develope several follicles, once it's time to release your eggs they may give you a shot to make sure you have ovulated, your hubby will have to give a seman sample and they will insert his seman into you witha a very small cathiter so the sperm goes into the top of your uterus where it is closer to your tubes. I have 1 failed IVF and will be doing another IVF in the near future. My surgeon told me that being pregnant would not cause any problems with my pouch but when it was time to have the baby I would have to have a c-section. I hope I was able to help and answer your questions. I am hear if you need to talk. Jenny |
