HI I am 18 years old and have had a j-pouch for a couple years now. I am looking to go on birth control but don't feel comfterable asking my doctor these questions because she is a family friend. I have no large intestine & was woundering if the pill would still work because of it. The gyno i talked to wasn't sure about how effective it would be without my intestine. she advised me to talk to me my doctor but as a said earlier i don't feel comfterable.
I am now on the shot, but the side-effects are killing me and i would really like to transfer to the pill but would like to kno the effectivness of it it first...
woundering if any of you women had similar situations or can ask your doctors. it would be a tremendous help! thank you

How about the patch? Avoids the GI tract, and no injections. However, most people can use the pill without problems as long as you don't have a super fast transit time (like an hour or two). The pill is not time release.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

I had no trouble when I was on the pill, however I was terrible at remembering to take it on time. I switched to the nuva ring. Its a ring you insert in to the vagina and leave there for 3 weeks then take it out the 4th week. Its worked quite well. I tried the patch but was allergic to the tape so I didnt stay on it or should I say it didnt stay on me too much longer. lol

My surgeon suggested that I do not use the pill as it may not be as effective. I did the shot for 3 years and it was horrible. I also did the patch for 8 months and that was OK, except to triggered monthly migraines and I did finf the adhesive irritating. Have you thought of a IUD!
