Hallo everyone. My english isn,t that good but hope you'll understand me Smiler I'm pregnant (first child) but have some problems with my pouch. To understand me you have to know that I have a lot of other problems due to the my UC: blood clots, kidney stones, arthritis etc Frowner. But now i'm pregnant and don't know what to expect. There are almost no info about pergnancy and j-pouch in my country. My pouch has never been all that great, i often have pouchitis also during my pregnancy. Has anyone had problems with pouchitis during pregnancy and what did you do? Did you any other problems during your pregnancy? I would like to hear from all of you. Smiler

Oh and by the way: How are your kids today? Did they have any growth problems or malformations during your pregnancy?

Danish,

I have had chronic pouchitis since a few weeks after my takedown, and I had it the entire time I was pregnant. I treated it with Augmentin (Amoxiclav) during the first trimester and then rotated that with Flagyl the second and third trimesters. This worked very well for me, and my son was born very healthy.

Other problems in my pregnancy were similar to any other j-pouchers. Mainly increased frequency in the 3rd trimester from extra pressure on the pouch.

Let me know if you have any specific questions regarding medication.

Hi
I also have chronic pouchitis and in my country they treat it with either cipro or flagyl. I have only tried cipro. During 1. trimester i was given cipro but they are not sure about the sideeffects. Now i'm not on any medicin, cause they won't give cipro in 2. and 3. trimester and they won't give flagyl.I'm happy to hear that your son is doing great Smiler

I was on a low dose of flagyl throughout my entire pregnancy to keep pouchitis under control. I had a very normal pregnancy without complications and my son is healthy. After struggling with pouchitis for several years, it finally completely cleared up and I have not needed any medication for well over a year.

Danish, I suppose medication recommendations are probably different in each country. Cipro is not recommended here during pregnancy, and Flagyl is ok for trimesters 2 and 3. I don't know what it is called in your country, but Augmentin's active is Amoxicilin with another ingredient (clavuanate). It is much safer than both Cipro and Flagyl and works great for many j-pouchers. I would strongly advise that you bring this up with your doctor so that your symptoms don't get too out of control. If they don't sell this there, I'm sure you can at least find regular Amoxicilin. It probably won't work quite as well, but I'm sure will help you some.

Good luck!

Thank you both.
I guess the treatment is different in my country, but it is good to hear from others in the same situation. I have never heard about Amoxicilin but I will ask my doctors if they know it. I hope my pouch will get better soon very soon.
