getting bowels movingGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
So...I've read many complaints from women just giving birth that their bowels are extrememly slowed due to epidural/spinal/pain killers, which in turn causes a lot of gas pains. Would it be advised then to eat/drink all the foods that we normally avoid in excess (grape juice, prunes, caffeine, insoluble fiber) to help move things along or would that just cause more problems? Trying to plan ahead for the hospital :-) total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11

I would think that would cause more problems. Walk...walk and walk some more to get things moving....don't want to add to intestinal issues with new baby to love on. God is Good. All the time.

I was put on a liquid diet after my c-section. That seemed to keep things slow and calm. I was only having bowel movements once or twice a day, which was a welcome treat after the third trimester. The walking helped relieve the gas. I maintained my bland eating habits to keep things calm while I was in the hospital. Good Luck!!! UC, 2 step J-pouch, 1993

thanks :-) i did get my GI's input as well. he suggested not overdoing it as well, but that it might not be a bad idea to bring a prune or two with if things get really backed up. total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11
