I've had my pouch for 5 years. For the past 2 it hasn't been doing it's job well. Doc just said had ulcers lining j-pouch. Wants to be aggressive and start me on 6-mp and humira. He's also checking for chrons since I have a fistula and other symptoms that could be chrons. I'm 37 and wants kids BADLY! I've been putting it off cause i've been so sick for almost 10 years now. I'm 95 pounds and my body's immune system is always sick. I read about 6-mp and humira. They sound like VERY POTENT medications. Doc said let's try for 3-6 months and see if you get any relief? So these meds don't heal the ulcers, they just give some symptom relief? Also, how are these meds going to affect me getting pregnant? Do I want to put more meds into my poor little sick system?

My husband and I were talking and thought, maybe I should mess with the meds and do the one thing that'll get me the closest to becoming healthy again and havy a baby. We both agreed, that's an ostomy bag.

Anyone have any feedback?

I had uc and was on 6-mp for about 8months prior to having j-pouch 08/06, I was also on imuran, and cyclosporin one after the other as well as prednisone constantly for 3 years and they did give me some relief from symptoms but uc was never under control so i couldn't try and get pregnant during this time.However I fell pregnant straight away after j-pouch surgery last year and am 1 week from having bubs.According to scans the baby is healthy etc. I remember my gastro-enterologist said under no circustances was I to try and get pregnant whilst on 6-mp ..Never been on humira. Obviouly I am different than you my point is that I was on the full gammet of medications for 3 years(toxins) and still able to get pregnant and sustain pregnancy after finishing them.

As far as trying the medications you could be on them and control your symptoms but go back to square one and still need an ostomy bag after being on meds for 6months . I think we know our own body better than anyone else and you are probably right as these medications are only bandaid solutions and never get rid of the real problems.
