Most drs will prefer that you take nothing in the first 3 months if at all possible. However, that is always prefaced by the concept that if the mother isn't healthy, the baby won't be healthy. So, if you need a medication to stay healthy enough to support the baby, you should check with your dr to find out which one is the safest. Cipro is an absolute no, but I do know of some people who have taken Flagyl.

I read your earlier post and I don't think 7 days of Flagyl will do any harm, but you should check with a dr.

As for terminating the pregnancy, you need to make that decision based on whether or not you are ready for a baby, as well as your health situation. Given how sensitive medication issues are, you really need to talk to an OB/GYN to get reassurance about what meds to take.

tks for yr reply.
I am for sure want to have a baby, and i am ready for it!

but it seems that my dr gave me the wrong medicine, even i told him that i planned to get pregnant.

my dr also checked with some other dr and medicine centre, but no one can give a ensured answer.
i really donot know how much the risk will be?

I have noticed in your posts that you are very concerned about the Flagyl.
I am sorry you are worried. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
After googling "Flagyl during pregnancy" I found that 2nd and 3rd trimesters are safest but it seems like you in your 1st trimester should be fine.
Flagyl
Good luck!

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and took flagyl for 3 days the week before I found out I was pregnant. I too, was nervous, but my doctor said it is fine. The doctors would rather not have you take any medicine at all, but from what my doctor told me, he was not concerned.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was on some experimental Italian traveler's diarrhea med (xifaxan) and drinking loads of alcohol (depressed about unemployment) and taking tons of lomotil when I found out I was 7 weeks pregnant (I'd had a period and didn't know I was pregnant). All my docs said not to worry. I worried the whole time but gave birth to a healthy boy. Within days after birth I had to take flagyl for a vaginal cyst (yuck!) and baby drank flagyl-ized breastmilk. I wouldn't worry...

Linda,

I'm sorry you have to go through this worry! I had doctors that refused to give me any anti-biotic during my first trimester but the minute I hit 13 weeks I was on flagyl. 7 days doesn't seem a big deal to me, but of course there is a risk with this medicine in the first trimester. Odds are that your baby is fine. Talk with your doctor and make sure he understands that you would like to avoid antibiotics if possible for your first trimester.

I would never personally recommend an abortion just because there might be something wrong. If you don't want to have a child with complications make sure that there is one before making such a decision.

Smile!!! You are having a baby! Don't worry!
