Does anyone know of a GYN in NYC that is familiar with J-pouches and takes insurance? I have an ovarian cyst that needs to be removed or drained. The last 2 doctors I saw at Columbia would not operate. I think our "changed anatomy" scares many drs away.
enigma you wrote: "When I feel symptomatic I have the fluid drained by an interventional radiologist as an ultrasound guided procedure with local lido." What is the name of your interventional radiologist? Do you get doctor's orders from your GI, surgeon or GYN? Any doctor referals would be appreciated. Tahnks, Barbara This message has been edited. Hi, Barbara--I live in NYC and I have not found a gyn familiar with jpouches, though I haven't needed that. I have had the experience of docs afraid to go in though...Have you tried getting a referral from your GI? I have a great GI at Sinai--Thomas Ullman--I've only recently found him, but love him, he takes insurance, and I imagine he would know of someone to refer you to. Also, you might try a high risk ob/gyn--they would certainly have more experience.
Good luck getting the treatment you need. JWG |

My present GI is afilliated with Mt.Sinai, but he does not take insurance. So I need to change GI's because the deductable has doubled. I am looking for doctors that are affiliated with NYP Cornell, now. My husband was recently at NYP Cornell and we loved the facility and doctors there.
Still waiting to hear back from Dr.Michelassi's office. I guess Friday was a bad day , with the snow and ice. |

Hi,
I just had a baby 3 weeks ago and I have a great ob-gyn I used in NYC. He is affiliated with Mount Sinai though. His name is Dr. Moss, I believe the name of his practice is Park Ave women's center. He is very familiar with j-pouches and has a lot of patients with them. Let me know if you'd like more info. Dana |

Thanks for the referal for Dr.Moss. What is his first name? I will search for him in my insurance network. I really need a doctor that takes BCBS-PPO. Thanks, Barbara |

I don't have the same problem but similiar. I've have fluid from my abdomin drained by intervention radiology before as well as pelvic specialist and a reprodictive endcrenoligist. The IR is an area in the hospital. I had my OB/GYN set that one up. It was painless. They gave me good drugs. I had a drain in my for a few weeks and it was drained. My fluid comes back everytime so now I just live with it unless it get to be bad. We know it is nothing not cancer, not bacteria, not stool. I've had numerous MRI's, CAT scans and nobody know where my fluid is coming from. Ever doctor has their own opinion. Ranging from my tubes aren't connected, to adhesions. I hope this helps.

Thanks, msozz for the info. I think I am heading down to NYC to NY Presbyterian Cornell hospital when my husband gets home. I feel really nauseated and my pain is worse. I took pain meds but it is still lingering. I feel like I could pass out any minute. My son is home with me and a live a block from my local hospital. But I would not go there there unless I was in severe pain. They really don't know about Jpouches.
I just wish I had the name of a GYN surgeon that knew about Jpouches in NYC. |

Dana, Thanks for the referal, but he is not in my network.
msozz, I would like to hear more about your strange fluid. Do you feel pain? I feel like my stomach is being pushed on or squeezed. There is pressure like I ate too much. What do they call this? What doctor did the diagnosis? I went to the ER. What a mistake! 17 hours later, I had a CT and US. They see a fluid filled mass or cluster of cysts, but they couldn't see the ovary. I mentioned the possibilty of a peritoneal cyst, but the US tech couldn't say. Dr.Sang Lee's crew was there to see me in the morning. They looked at the tests and didn't see a problem with my pouch. They are a nice group of young doctors. After some pleading to the receptionist by my husband, I got an appointment on Tues. with a GYN/ONC at Cornell, Dr.Kevin Holcomb. Has anyone seen him as a patient? A GYN/ONC doctor will be the most likely to be skilled with delicate surgery. I just hope I don't jinx myself and he finds cancer. It is so difficult to find doctors other than the obvious GIs, that are knowlegable with J-pouches. You can't go to just any doctor because of the strange new anatomy. |
