Hi! I would definitely recommend the test as a potential aid in conception. I had the test after trying to conceive my first child for about 5 months (post surgeries), and became pregnant the second month following the HSG test. It is somewhat uncomfortable, like bad menstrual cramps, but that only lasts for 2 minutes or so, and then it's over. The test will show if your tubes have been blocked or impaired by scar tissue, which is obviously critical if you're having difficulty conceiving after abdominal surgery. I really recommend it, and would have a second test just as a fertility aid if I try for a second child. The doctor that ordered the test for me did want me to go to one particular doctor to have it done, who supposedly did it well and caused less pain. I'd try to find the most experienced, best doctor possible to minimize discomfort. Good luck!!

A good dr or radiologist will take you through it and explain in detail if it helps...I had 2 that revealed blocked tubes both times (concieved after both but unfortunately lost them each time)... The test can be reasonably uncomfortable but a couple of deep breaths and it is over...and the hope that your tubes aren't blocked or unblock make the time go by quickly...sometimes it takes up to 6 months after the test for the tubes to 'heal'. I would have gone through a dozen if it would have helped me to have one... Sharon
It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....
