I am currently 37 weeks pregnant with my second child and my c-section is scheduled for next week. During my 1st pregnancy I had a complete bowel obstruction, and since then, I have had several partial obstructions (although thankfully, none during this pregnancy). I am on an extremely limited diet right now (no fruits/veggies of any kind, no seeds, nuts, tough red meat, lobster/shrimp...the list is long!) that has kept me obstruction-free during this pregnancy, but I cannot eat like this forever.
My colorectal surgeon who will be in on my c-section, has suggested a vertical c-section incision below the belly button, and through that, he can reach up and hopefully, cut some adhesions, greatly reducing my chances of obstructing in the future. While this sounds like a great plan, and he claims it will not increase my recovery time, I am hesitant. I am discussing this plan with my OB at my appointment tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this done during a c-section? Was the recovery much worse than after a "typical" c-section? I am afraid of being in a lot of pain for a much longer period of time and unable to care for my newborn and 3 yr old.
Thanks!
