Hi Everyone;
I am scheduled to go into the hospital next Thursday for a diagnostic D&C to try to find out what's been causing abnormal uterine bleeding. My GYN knows I've had a j-pouch done 21yrs ago. Should I ask my CR surgeon if there are any special precautions they should take while doing this procedure? I like the GYN...but still, his specialty isn't the pouch Smiler. Any thoughts?? Thank you for any input anyone has!!

Hi Michele, I'm sorry you're still having problems. I had one done last year and called my surgeon first and he said there wouldn't be any problems. I'm not even sure my GYN understood what a j-pouch was. The test is quick, and I didn't have any problems with the pouch afterwards.

Good Luck,

janna

Thanks Janna.
I have a phonecall in to my CR surgeon, just in case. The two docs are on the same floor in a Professional Building...so they can chat amongst themselves if need be. I have wayyyy too much invested in this pouch to have someone else screw something up!! Thanks for the good wishes Janna.

Well...I thought I would provide an update after having had a chat with my CR surgeon. Here's the scoop. No special precautions with a D&C, even though it's all so close. But..IF I have to have a hysterectomy later on, then yes, many precautions. First, and the one that makes the most sense but upsets me too is that I would have to have an "open" traditional surgery. This is because of the probable adhesions from the uterus to the pouch and bowel. My surgeon did say he would have to be available the day they do my surgery, "in case" any problems developed. Personally, I would be much happier if the CR surgeon was in the OR for the hysterectomy, if it's ever needed. So, here's to hoping that the D&C takes care of things and I don't need anything further! The main reason I came back and posted a response was I'm sure there are/will be other women with pouches asking the same questions. Being a woman can certainly have it's good and bad points Smiler.

Michele,

Thanks for the update. I hope it takes care of things and there is no more surgery in your future.
