Hello all,
Currently I am on my period and I find that it is the worst yet. I don't really understand why, but I seem to get the most terrible cramps! I was wondering if this could be due to scarring on the tubes..? As well, I find that my pouch goes a little wacky. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm curious to see if it's just me lol Big Grin

Yes ever since my last surgery May 2010 my periods have been unbearable.I'm currently going to different drs to get options.I'm on bloodthinners for clot history so I can't take birth control.I do believe it has to have something to do with adhesions.I will let you know if I figure it out.I hope you feel better.Definitely go to your gyn and see what they can do for you.

My pouch goes nutty. And I swear I can feel things happening inside now. And its very painful.

Dehydration causes worse cramping. Make sure you're hydrated especially then. And for the rest of it...I'm starting mine now and basically yesterday ate nothing but kashi cereal dry and that with good pouch/period results. Not the normal gas and liquid deviation from 'normal'

Good luck. You are sooo not alone. And as to why? don't really know??

I'm with you. My solution was to go on Seasonal-lo birth control. Only 4 periods a year.

I've also noticed that I have MUCH increased tissue tenderness. Like the 2-3 days before I actually start the period it HURTS to wipe after peeing. So very strange!

Karbear- I used to get awful migraines with my period and then the doctor recommended having less periods = less migraines. Switching to a generic seasonal birth control has definitely helped me feel better as well.

My period symptoms got much worse after getting my jpouch. It definitely affects my pouch. It causes a lot of pain and I have trouble emptying. I too switched to a birth control that allows less periods, and though the symptoms are still the same, I only get it every 4 months or so. Big Grin Can't complain about that!
Good luck! Hope it gets better!

Side note: I also had a few episodes of mind boggling cramps during my period since getting my jpouch. I figured it might have been ovarian cysts. I never even thought about scar tissue. That sounds very possible.

I also have ovarian cysts but was also wondering about scar tissue or adhesions.Birth control isn't an option because I'm on coumadin for blood clots. They offered ablation or hysterectomy but I don't have children yet.I have surgical consult soon and I'm going to ask if they can scope for adhesions and try to clean area up.Not sure if that makes sense. It just seems like since our pouches we have horrible periods. My life stops for those days and I have to take percocet.

I also had ovarian cysts...funny, is it a pouch thing....your periods and your guts are intimitaely related...generally, 'normal' women get diareaha (sp?) with their periods..it is a hormonal thing, we swell, bloat and then 'release' everything in our bodies so that we feel 'light' afterwards...biologically it makes sense but unfortunately it also makes cramps and pain...

The duration of my period actually came down after surgery. Before I became ill and underwent surgery I would have my period for up to 10 days....heavy period which usually left me anaemic. Then I became seriously ill and as a matter of fact my period stayed away for 9 months (almost as if I have had a baby lol)

Upon the return of my period, I only had a 5 day period at the time...which was super!! Then I had jpouch step one and step 2 in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

At the moment I have a period of about 5-7 days, which is sheer bliss.

I experience different symptoms during my period. Many times I am just extremely TIRED...and EXHAUSTED, but that's probably normal.

One month I experienced leakage which left me so frustrated and of course very burnt and sore down there. I was so frustrated, because I never experienced leakage before...only very shortly after takedown surgery.

During some months I feel extremely bloated and gassy as if everything I eat causes cas or windiness.

Some months are better than others, so I appreciate and embrace the good months and I pray that the bad months move swiftly along lol.
