I know that most of you who post here have had removal but I'm curious if any of you had a pregnancy while on medication or Remicade to be specific. If not do you know where a good place would be to do some research? I posted here late last year because I was told my last two options where Remicade and surgery. I opted for the remicade and I'm now 7 weeks pregnant. My Gastro says it's safe but my OB says it's not. Now I'm confused. Frowner

I would lean toward what your OB says, but certainly make sure he knows your GI situation. Sometimes, drugs that aren't considered safe may be used in pregnancy because the health of the mother depends on it and that outweighs the risk to the baby. I'd find out what your OB knows about Remicade in pregnancy (i.e. any testing done? Any reports on birth defects? Is the drug absorbed into the blood stream?) and go from there.

Are you seeing a high risk OB? If not, you should consider at least a consult with one because they are much more used to dealing with complex issues in pregnancy and a high risk OB may have a different opinion than a regular OB.

Hi there, this is Melissa (still can't get in under my login). The data that has been collected so far seems to be positive for a good outcome. Here is one link I found: Remicade in pregnancy

Do a Google search for infliximab pregnancy and you'll get lots of citations.

I was on Humira when I learned I was pregnant, and stopped using it until the last trimester. My high-risk OB and GI had no reservations about me using it during pregnancy, but I chose to go without it for as long as possible. My son is perfect, although he was born 5½ weeks premature. We don't know if his premature birth was related to the Humira, as I was having a disease flare towards the end.

I was one of the participants of an OTIS study for Humira use during pregnancy, and here is the information on that study: Humira during pregnancy

I know it is a difficult decision, but it's not good for the baby if you're not healthy. Best wishes to you for a healthy and happy pregnancy.

My GYN told me he doesn't think Remicade/Humira crosses the placenta.
I would also make an appointment with a high risk OB.
I know 2 babies born to mom's on Remicade. Both are girls, both are healthy to date Smiler

This probably isn't much help..but I had just had my third dose of Remicade when I got pregnant. It was stopped because I had a reaction so I didn't continue into my pregnancy. It did however stay in my system for the first few weeks of my pregnancy. I'd like to reiterate that you need to be healthy to have a healthy baby. Sometimes medication is necessary and you have to accept the risks. Those risks can be minimized by seeing a high risk OB who is in constant dialogue with your GI.My baby is now 6 months and was born 3 weeks early but very healthy.

Best of luck, oh yeah..I'm from Oregon, If you are in the Portland area and ever need a surgeon mine were amazing! Megan Cavanaugh and Patrick Lee.
