Hey guys, hope your all doing good!

I'm going to be asking my doctor for a script for birth control pills at my next appointment and I was wondering if anyone had any problems with any type of birth control pill in relation to the surgery/accompanying medication.
There are so many of them out there and the side effects of some of them frighten me..
We need to wait until we are ready before trying to create any monsters, though! Big Grin Thanks!!

Sarah

My Surgeon told me not to take the pill because it might not be effective enough due to absorption.

I went on Depo-provera for 3 years and it was horrible. I had nightly leaks until I stopped. I gain 70 lbs and went crazy.

I used the patch for about a year and that seemed to work fine.

Absorption should not be a problem unless your transit time is very rapid. The patch can be a good option too. However, if you have any history of blood clots, you probably should seek another form of birth control.

I don't know specifically what medications you are on so it all depends. With birth control pills, many antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

My OB/GYN put me on Nuva Ring. She said it was best for me since, because it didn't go through the digestive tract, my j-pouch doesn't have an affect on the absorption. I haven't had any major problems with it. I mean, I have had the typical mood swings, but that's because my body is trying to adjust. It's not used to estrogen lol ( I also have polycystic ovary syndrome). It's very convenient. I was on depo at one point, but I was miserable. Nuva Ring seems to agree with me.

Interesting. I was on birth control pills for many years after having my pouch surgery. I don't believe they really ever contributed to any problems, at least not that I was aware of.

I took Levlen for a few years, more recently I took Yasmin.
