Has anyone taken Keflex for pouchitis? My Augmentin isn't working too well after a year on it. This is what my GI suggested since I'm nursing. Also, has anyone taken Imodium while nursing? Seems like their is mixed reviews on this when I look online. My pediatrician first said it wasn't recommended, but then said it's ok. I know it was category C during pregnancy. Thanks! total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11

Do you have chronic pouchitis? I am wondering why you have been on augmentin for a year. I have been on for 2.5 months and my GI is insistent I wean off this as he is not happy about it. I know there are other antibiotics you can try. Have you tried to lower your dosage or stop taking it? Do your symptoms just come back? Have you had a pouchoscopy recently to see what is going on inside your pouch?

kjeane, yes, i have had chronic pouchitis since 6 weeks post takedown. i was on a very low dose of augmentin for a year since i was pregnant (with a couple rounds of flagyl). it's the safest antibiotic to take while pregnant and worked great for me. to your questions, i was taking such a low dosage already, i couldn't wean any further. yes, i would get off of it for as many days as i could at a time, then start up again when symptoms resumed. i've tried several antibiotics and probiotics before i was pregnant that work well, but there aren't too many i want to risk taking while nursing. i am due for another scope sometime soon...i had my last just over a year ago. i needed to wait until i was done being pregnant. thus, this is why i'm asking about keflex. it's one of the safer antibiotics to take while nursing. total colectomy/j-pouch creation/temp ileo: 02/05/10 takedown: 04/12/10 son born: 06/22/11
