I'm considering trying to get pregnant in the next six months and I'm wondering if adhesions can actually be dangerous during pregnancy. If they're attached to something else and there's stretching/pulling, can it tear a vital organ? I know it can cause pain and even obstructions, but I just feel so vulnerable now, after 3 surgeries (Step 1 & 2 laproscopic and then a third surgery for return to loop ileo & ex-lap done more open) and I'm scared that something will go terribly wrong.
Thanks! Erin Thanks! Erin I live for my son! Step One: April 8th, 2005 Step Two: June 15th, 2005 Temp loop ileo again: August 15th, 2007 - due to unknown pouch pain. |

I had scar tissue pain with both pregnancies and my doctor never said anything about damage to other organs. I was hospitalized in my first for pain, but my second pregnancy I just had discomfort mostly when I slept on my left side!

I had two pregnancies since my three surgeries, 1 for ostomy, 2 adhesion removal, 3 jpouch. Never had pain for adhesions pulling, etc. My first pregnancy was pre-operation, 2nd was post ileostomy surgery (and I had a mucus fistula, which was like an ostomy but on my left side and was attached to my rectum that was still intact), never had any pulling or pain with this. 3rd baby was post j-pouch surgery and this one was fine too. (yes, I had some other minor problems, but nothing like you're suggesting). I'm pregnant again with my fourth and so far, I'm just horribly sick with nausea and vommitting and have some pain and pressure in my bum. Maybe this is caused from scar tissue that has formed....sure feels like something is pressing on my bottom all the time and I'm only 13 weeks. Good luck and dont let all your bad fortune with the surgeries keep you from having babies!!!!

The danger would be in what you listed above...pain and/or obstruction. If these things lead you to need surgery during your pregnancy it can be harmful, but usually surgery to remove adhesions is elective and can be put off until after delivery. So you might be miserable because of adhesions in your pregnancy, but you aren't necessarily in danger.
