I had just started my IVF hormones for about 8 days, and, my hemoglobin level dropped to half. (I later found it was ay 7!) I didn't know this, and I passed out in the street, my stool was completely black, and I ended up in the ER with a gastric ulcer. I was told this was from the aspirin I was taking for the headaches I got from the stimulating hormones. (My first thought--and concern--was Chron's--I have a 12 yr old j-pouch from my UC) But somewhere along the line a doctor mentioned to me that the hormones can thin the stomach lining and leave one susceptible to ulcers.
I know this isn't particularly for J-pouchers and UC sufferers, but I'm wondering if this has been anyone's experience and if this might happen to me again.
Thanks, as always, for your feedback!
Jennifer

Jennifer,

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I'm a bit concerned with your taking aspirin though. I was told that only Tylonal should be taken when going through IVF. If you are taking aspirin, you should be making sure that you and your dr are monitoring this.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Thanks, Nicole. I had been told aspirin--and my migraine medicine, imitrex, was okay to take before the transfer stage. But now, after the ulcer, no more aspirin for me!
Has anyone ever had a thinned lining from hormones? I'm really wondering if a coincidence is possible here. (I have always taken a lot of aspirin...)
Any experience would be so helpful.
Thanks!
