I am having this issue now... My next surgery isn't for 3 months, but what ended up happening to you? Did the hydrofera blue clear it up? How long did it take?

Hi blufngerO3, Well I had the surgery for the prolapsing stoma, and after surgery, my doctor told me he switched my loop ileo to an end ileo. I asked if this will keep my stoma from prolapsing, and he said, "I hope so.", but added that the stoma could prolapse again. The pyoderma is healing, but very very slowly. I am still using the hydrofera blue, and also a friend told me to take Vit C to help my body heal. I now take 1,000 mg of Vit C once a day with a meal. I don't know if it will actually help, but I am willing to try. So far, no problems with prolapse, and I am guessing it might be another month or two before the pyoderma heals completely. When is your surgery scheduled?

Ann,
Mine is actually completely gone. It was really horrible too, very painful. But after about 3 weeks using hydrofera blue, it was gone. My surgeon had said he would do the 2nd step (of 3) either way, but its nice that its gone. If it got any closer I think it was about to start eating away at the side of the stoma. i just hope this issue goes away and isn't a long term thing...
How are you doing?

Well, unfortunately my pyoderma is still here, even after 2 months of treating with the hydrafera blue. Good news is that it is getting better, but very slowly. I hope in the next few weeks it will be gone. I had problems with my wafer not being big enough to cover my stoma and pyoderma, so moisture was getting in, causing another skin irritation around the stoma, and not allowing the pyoderma to imporve. Anyhow, I saw the ET nurse this week and we have switched to a much larger wafer, and I am already seeing an improvement. Fingers crossed...

Ann,
Yeah, having a wafer the right size is important. I use a cut to fit wafer since my size changes so much, but I heard from others that that can cause the pyoderma. Keep chugging away with the hydrofera blue-- it was awesome and worked really fast on me. Also make sure that a doctor is watching it... and change your appliance often. I was changing it every other day with the hydrofera blue on.
Good luck!
