Just put on for the first time a new apliance from cymed this morning,it is a one piece micro skin, so far it is very light and comfortable. I don't like the bread bag like tie that closes off the bottom of the pouch, I'd rather have a velcro type colsure. At the time I got this sample they were just starting to offer the velcro type closure.
I'll give it the test of time to see, there is no ostomy belts to go with these so we shall see how it works. Anyone else try or wear the cymed brand ostomy apliances?
I normaly wear the convatec 2 piece durahesive moldable or the tupperware cut to fit and get 5 to 7 days wear with the convatec.

I tried Cymed once, and it was a dismal failure for me. I got about three hours of wear out of the appliance. It was too bad to. That micro skin stuff has promise.

I do have to say though, my try of it was when I was having pretty consistent leaking problems with almost everything. Now that my stoma is a little more mature, I might not have the same problem.

cymed doesn't make a convex product, so that was an issue for me, but more than that, the microskin irritated my skin after about 2 days. As you say, it was too bad because I loved the way it wore.

I tried these micro-skin appliances with my old stoma and like Rae I got maybe 3 hours out of it. Cymed claims that their products hug your skin so well that there is no need for a convex appliance. With my flush illeo at the time I really needed convexity so I think that is why it failed for me. Now my stoma stick out a good 1/2 inch to 1 inch so I might try it again. I also prefer a 2 piece vs a 1 piece and they only offer the 1 piece. In order to use a 1 piece I have to have a clear appliance so I can see what I am doing when putting it on. Whenever I wear clear bags it gives me flash backs to being in the hospital and ICU as that it what I always wore back then so they could keep an eye on things.

Maybe it just isn't the appliance for me. Wink I am not sure I could give up my moldable convex Convatec systems anyway. lol

Cymed update,
I finally took the cymed micro skin off on wed., yesterday, 4 1/2 days. Absolutely no leaks.

My positive thoughts on the cymed micro skin, I like the way the barrier is on my skin, no iritation at all under the tape but under the washer around the stoma it was a little iritated at the bottom of the stoma but upon further inspection there was alot of the washer that kind of stayed on the skin that I had to work on to remove it, the tape part of the barrier peeled off easy except where it met the hair from my belly, I didn't shave enough off before applying the barrier. "It was very light and compfortable". When applying I used no adhesive or skin prep as recomended by cymed, just shaved, washed and dried the skin.

The negatives, cymed only offers the 1 piece for the ileostomy, it was hard to get it on because it is a 1 piece. There is no way to burp the bag except through the bottom. Cymed doesn't offer the ileostomate a velcro type closure, only on the colostomy bags, it had a cheap bread bag like tie that stuck on the tail of the bag, I took it off and used a clip. I don't like clips either but they work. I don't know why but I can't empty and clean the tail without getting poo on my fingers, velcro is no problem for me.

I talked to cymed on the phone and asked why they didn't offer more for the ileostomy? They said they are a small company and it is hard to expand there product line because they are small.

Overall I would experiment with this more if a velcro type closure was available. A 2 piece was offered and there was a way to burp the 1 piece bags. I could add an osto-ez vent?

Once I got back into the convatec durahesive I'm use to wearing it felt good.

DMC, outta curiosity, how long is your stoma? You've gotten me curious enough that I might try Cymed again if I thought I had half a chance of it not doing something gross. I'm with you- I don't like the twist-tie closure either. As much as I hate clips, they are better than those things.

Hi Rae,
I'd say my stoma is about 3/4 of an inch long, it is odd shaped because it is what my surgeon calls a loop/end, oval in shape. When the surgeon tried to make the end he said he couldn't get it to stand up so that is the reason for the end/loop. the path that would normally go down to the conection site down below only travels about an inch.

I still have another sample of the micro skin to try. I was told when you try the micro skin to make sure your skin is in good shape before hand. Then your results will not be from pre existing skin issues...Good luck

My daughter is very thin and allergic to many adhesives. The only bag we had any success with was the Cymed bag. We used it with an Eakon seal that we flattened and cut smaller. We also used a clip instead of the funny closure they supplied. Cymed is a very friendly company in Berkeley, CA. They are happy to send free samples and their nurse gave us great phone advice. We found out that we were not wiping enough powder away before putting the bag on which lead to leaks. We were also advised to warm the seal in our palms before applying the bag to help it adhere better and to press for at least 30 seconds after putting it on. Even though Cymed worked the best for my daughter's thin build and skin issues, we still had to change it every 2-3 days which was better than 2 times a day with some other products. Cymeds low profile can be a problem if your stoma is rather flat. It is especially good for athletes as it is so flexible and light weight. Good luck.
